{"id":129405,"date":"2017-03-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/press-releases\/highways-texas-us-281-widening\/"},"modified":"2017-03-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-03T00:00:00","slug":"highways-texas-us-281-widening","status":"publish","type":"press_release","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en-us\/press-releases\/highways-texas-us-281-widening\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrovial to expand a section of US 281 in Texas for 181 million euro"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>The <a title=\"Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.txdot.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)<\/a> has selected <a title=\"Webber\" href=\"http:\/\/wwebber.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Webber<\/a> (a <a title=\"Ferrovial Agroman\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Ferrovial Agroman<\/a> subsidiary) to expand an 8-mile (13-kilometre) section of the <strong>US 281<\/strong> between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive, in Bexar County, San Antonio. The project has a budget of 192 million dollars (more than 181 million euro) and will take 3 years to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>The contract includes the construction of <strong>three new lanes<\/strong> (two for general use and one for high occupancy vehicles) in each direction, together with four interchanges with Loop 1604 and a direct connection to a park-and-ride facility with <strong>access to<\/strong> <a title=\"VIA Metropolitan Transit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.viainfo.net\/Ride\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">VIA Metropolitan Transit<\/a> (<strong>San Antonio&#8217;s public transport system<\/strong>). The necessary frontage roads will be built along with bicycle and pedestrian facilities.<\/p>\n<p>With more than 1.8 million residents, Bexar County is the fourth largest in Texas. It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan area, the third most populous area in the state, after Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston.<\/p>\n<p>Webber was recently awarded the expansion of <a title=\"I-45\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/widening-i-45-houston-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">I-45<\/a> in Walker County, north of Houston.<a title=\"Cintra\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/toll-roads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Cintra<\/a>, Ferrovial&#8217;s highway subsidiary, operates the <a title=\"LBJ Express\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/projects\/lbj-expressway-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">LBJ Express<\/a> and <a title=\"North Tarrant Express\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/projects\/north-tarrant-express-toll-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">North Tarrant Express<\/a> highways in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of
