  • For yet another year, the company has supported the initiative by the NGO WWF that took place on Saturday, March 25.

Earth Hour is one of the largest international initiatives in defense of the environment. This event takes place on the last Saturday of every year, and the mission is to raise awareness about climate change on a global scale. To do this, everyone is encouraged to turn off their lights and electronic devices between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm CET.

This initiative is promoted by the WWF; the organization proposes this gesture as a global wake-up call for the climate emergency and the loss of biodiversity. The first Earth Hour was held in Sydney in 2007, and since then, it has become a worldwide movement. More and more cities in more than 190 countries have joined, and millions of people have turned off the lights at their homes, businesses, buildings, and the most iconic monuments, leaving such memorable images as the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum without lights.

The Challenge: 40,000 km Around the Planet!

In 2023, in addition to continuing the symbolic gesture of turning off the light on March 25 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, we invite you to participate in the #KMPorElPlaneta #VueltaAlPlaneta initiative. This challenge uses the values of sports, such as effort and teamwork, to show that our small gestures can add up to help us win the most important race of our lives: overcoming the climate crisis.

Ferrovial and its Commitment to the Planet

For yet another year, the company is joining Earth Hour to underscore its strong commitment to the fight against climate change and preserving the environment and biodiversity.

In addition, Ferrovial has a climate strategy that’s fully integrated into the company’s business strategy. This includes the reduction of Scope 1&2&3 emissions endorsed by the SBTi initiative by 2030.

In 2022, Scope 1&2 emissions were reduced by 25.35% in absolute terms and 73.57% in intensity (base year 2009), and Scope 3 was reduced by 34.15% in absolute terms (base year 2012).
