The system was planned as a polder, which is a dry area that only fills with water in the event of flooding. The polder will contain the water in the event of a flood event, protecting an area of approximately <strong>600 km<\/strong><strong>\u00b2<\/strong>, from Racib\u00f3rz, K\u0119dzierzyn-Ko\u017ale, Brzeg, Opole, O\u0142awa to Wroc\u0142aw. The project is intended to protect about<strong> 2.5 million residents<\/strong> from flood, in three different provinces: \u015al\u0105skie, Opolskie and Dolno\u015bl\u0105skie. The spillway structure is equipped with six main gate valves, which can be operated mechanically or automatically.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97877\" src=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/07\/dji_0671-600px-480x400.jpg\" alt=\"flood protection reservoir\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.newsroom.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/15143530\/dji_0671-600px-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.newsroom.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/15143530\/dji_0671-600px.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"block-quote \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10 block-quote__body\">\n            <blockquote class=\"block-quote__text\" aria-label=\"\">\n                Construction of a flood protection reservoir in Racib\u00f3rz is a unique investment. It ensures the safety of millions of people and hundreds of towns and cities, including Wroc\u0142aw. We took over construction from another contractor. In total, nearly thousand people and more than 200 pieces of equipment were required to complete the contract. Thanks to the very good cooperation with the investor and the World Bank funding the investment, the project was completed in the contractual period. We have the extensive experience and capabilities required to implement hydrotechnical structures.            <\/blockquote>\n\n            <footer class=\"block-quote__footer\">\n                                    <p class=\"block-quote__author\" aria-label=\"\">\n                        <span class=\"block-quote__author-name\">Artur Popko<\/span>\n                    <\/p>\n                                    <p class=\"block-quote__author-role\" aria-label=\"\">\n                        Vice-President of the Management Board \u2013 Construction Director at Budimex SA.                    <\/p>\n                            <\/footer>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>The Racib\u00f3rz Dolny Reservoir has a total area of 26.3 km\u00b2 and a capacity of 185 million cubic metres of water, enough to fill <strong>226 Palaces of Science and Culture in Warsaw<\/strong>. The capacity will be gradually increased to 300 million m\u00b3, due to the aggregate to be extracted from the reservoir area. The net value of the construction works performed by <strong>Budimex<\/strong> is PLN 672 million.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"block-quote \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10 block-quote__body\">\n            <blockquote class=\"block-quote__text\" aria-label=\"\">\n                The Racib\u00f3rz Dolny Reservoir is the largest hydrotechnical investment project in Poland. Over 6.8 million tonnes of soil was used for the construction, enough to fill 130,960 freight cars. In a straight line, such a train would stretch from Racib\u00f3rz to Madrid.             <\/blockquote>\n\n            <footer class=\"block-quote__footer\">\n                                    <p class=\"block-quote__author\" aria-label=\"\">\n                        <span class=\"block-quote__author-name\">Artur Popko <\/span>\n                    <\/p>\n                            <\/footer>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>The construction works commenced in November 2017 and lasted almost 30 months. Redevelopment of the reservoir in Racib\u00f3rz Dolny was commissioned by the Regional Water Management Authority in Gliwice. The budget for the project originated from the funds of the World Bank, Council of Europe Development Bank, European Union, National Budget and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.<\/p>\n<p>Budimex has extensive experience in carrying out hydro-engineering investments. As the general contractor it has reconstructed: ports in \u015awinouj\u015bcie and Szczecin, P\u0142onie Channel close to Martwa Wis\u0142a in Gda\u0144sk, Rydzyna Reservoir, among others.
