{"id":99761,"date":"2020-10-19T12:57:26","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T10:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=local_new&#038;p=99761"},"modified":"2022-12-20T18:14:32","modified_gmt":"2022-12-20T17:14:32","slug":"bridge-21-opens-in-atlanta","status":"publish","type":"local_new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/local-news\/bridge-21-opens-in-atlanta\/","title":{"rendered":"Bridge 21 Opens in Atlanta"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>This past week, <strong>North Perimeter Contractors<\/strong> \u2013 the lead contractor on the <strong>Transform 285\/400 project<\/strong> in Atlanta, Georgia \u2013 opened the SR 400 Southbound to Interstate 285 Eastbound flyover ramp to traffic. The new design will significantly improve mobility at the interchange as it shifts from a \u201cclover-leaf\u201d design to a flyover ramp, facilitating a safer transition between highways for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Known as \u201c<strong>Bridge 21<\/strong>,\u201d the 285\/400 flyover is one of 33 major structures to be built as part of the reconstruction project that will improve <strong>10.5 miles of SR 400 and I-285<\/strong>, as well as add new flyover ramps, new collector-distributor lanes and other facilities to aid east-west travel along I-285 and north-south travel along SR 400.<\/p>\n<p>Building a new bridge structure can be one of the most complex components in infrastructure development, particularly with structures like Bridge 21, which has a completely new footprint (ingress and egress) from the prior bridge and a soaring, 80-foot-tall apex. The cap alone at the tallest point is holding up a series of 200-foot-long steel beams, each of which weighs over 400,000 pounds.<\/p>\n<h2>Safety first<\/h2>\n<p>Beyond the bridge\u2019s design and planning and field work \u2013 including ground work prep, demolition of existing structures, materials delivery and coordination, and rebuild \u2013 tremendous work was done behind the scenes. Project and safety teams met weekly and, in collaboration with <strong>Georgia Department of Transportation<\/strong>, held regular briefings internally and with key external stakeholders, including emergency responders and business and neighborhood groups. Due to COVID-19, many meetings had to be reconfigured \u2013 either spatially or via video conference \u2013 to allow for social distancing.<\/p>\n<p>The North Perimeter Contractors project team hosted a drive-through \u201cthank you\u201d luncheon for the project team prior to the opening.
