Ferrovial has been chosen as a finalist in the European Commission’s European Business Awards for the Environment<\/a>. The awards are held in Spain by Fundaci\u00f3n Biodiversidad<\/a>, which is a part of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. This distinction recognizes companies with strategic, innovative environmental management systems.<\/p>\n

The company is a finalist in the ‘Management’ category for its Water Footprint Calculation Methodology<\/a>. This system was implemented in 2015 to analyze the risks and opportunities associated with water. The goal is to reduce the BWI index (Business Water Index) 20% by 2030 and offset the annual water footprint. Ferrovial realizes that water plays a major role as a limited natural resource. This is why we aim to promote efficient<\/strong>, sustainable<\/strong> use of this resource.<\/p>\n

The methodology was developed specifically for the company, and it is based on the principles of The Water Footprint Assessment Manual (WFM), the Global Water Tool (GWT), and GRI-G4. These account for factors such as a country’s water stress, the impact on vegetation, and water’s accessibility to analyze the global impact on the resource.<\/p>\n

The company was named a finalist<\/a> in this category, along with three other major companies: El Corte Ingl\u00e9s S.A., Naturgy, and Tecnoresiduos R3.<\/p>\n

The awards ceremony was attended by His Majesty King Felipe VI and Teresa Ribera, the fourth vice-president of the Government of Spain and minister of the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. They were in charge of presenting the awards.<\/p>\n
