{"id":101409,"date":"2021-02-11T18:54:31","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T17:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=new&#038;p=101409"},"modified":"2025-04-10T17:55:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T15:55:32","slug":"ferrovial-part-of-foreticas-new-business-council-for-sustainable-development","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/ferrovial-part-of-foreticas-new-business-council-for-sustainable-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrovial, Part of For\u00e9tica\u2019s New Business Council for Sustainable Development"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>Twenty-five presidents and CEOs from major companies have formed the<a href=\"https:\/\/foretica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/declaracion_consejo_empresarial_espanol_desarrollo_sostenible.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><strong> Spanish Business Council for Sustainable Development<\/strong><\/a> led by <a href=\"https:\/\/foretica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">For\u00e9tica<\/a>, one of Spain\u2019s leading organizations in sustainability and corporate social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>The Council will be a meeting point for businesses where representatives can share their ideas about generating a <strong>joint strategic response<\/strong> for enhancing ambition and actions on <strong>environmental, social,<\/strong> and <strong>good governance<\/strong> issues.<\/p>\n<p>Spearheaded by For\u00e9tica, the Council has its sights set on becoming a premier forum for business leadership in sustainability in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Ferrovial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/company\/about-us\/management-committee\/ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Ignacio Madridejos<\/a> represents the company on the Council, which includes 24 other prominent companies: Adif, Airbus, Santander Bank, Bankia, Bankinter, BMW, Grupo Cooperativo Cajamar, Enag\u00e1s, Endesa, ENGIE, Ferrovial, Gestamp, GSK, HEINEKEN, Iberdrola, IBM, IKEA, ILUNION, ManpowerGroup, MSD, Naturgy, OHL, P&amp;G, Sanitas, and Solvay.<\/p>\n<p>The Council\u2019s first Executive Meeting was honorarily presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI. It took place today at Santander Bank Spain\u2019s headquarters and was begun by the Fourth Vice President and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera. A joint statement was published in its constitution, bringing together all of the commitments taken on by the Council\u2019s companies, which are aligned with the three main sustainability challenges of today: <strong>the climate crisis<\/strong>, <strong>good corporate governance<\/strong>, and <strong>social inequality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The commitments included in this statement are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Striving to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions in this decade by 2050.<\/li>\n<li>Short- and medium-term environmental goals that help restore wildlife and biodiversity by 2050.<\/li>\n<li>Implementing policies to uphold human rights per the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.<\/li>\n<li>Eliminating any sort of discrimination.<\/li>\n<li>Abiding by the highest levels of corporate governance and transparency.<\/li>\n<li>Aligning Business Risk Management (BRM) with environmental, social, and governance risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n    <section class=\"block-quote \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10 block-quote__body\">\n            <blockquote class=\"block-quote__text\" aria-label=\"\">\n                Businesses acting is essential for addressing our biggest environmental and social challenges.
