{"id":101531,"date":"2021-03-04T11:58:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T10:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=new&#038;p=101531"},"modified":"2022-12-21T08:44:14","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T07:44:14","slug":"heathrow-launches-plan-to-decarbonise-aviation","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/heathrow-launches-plan-to-decarbonise-aviation\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathrow Launches Plan to Decarbonise Aviation"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <ul>\n<li>The British hub has partnered up with leaders in aviation, academics and the tech industry to develop two carbon-cutting ideas to Innovate UK\u2019s Future Flight Challenge<\/li>\n<li>Challenge aims to safeguard the UK\u2019s advantage in aerospace R&amp;D, reduce costs, cut emissions and create an economic boost from new forms of mobility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business\/projects\/heathrow-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Heathrow<\/a> has come up with two projects on how to reduce emissions in aviation and make British airports more efficient in the future. These concepts are part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/our-work\/our-main-funds\/industrial-strategy-challenge-fund\/future-of-mobility\/future-flight-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><strong>The Future Flight Challenge<\/strong><\/a>, an initiative funded by through \u00a3125 million of government grants.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge has three main objectives: safeguarding the UK\u2019s advantage in aerospace research and development, reducing aviation emissions and creating economic opportunities from new forms of air mobility.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"block-quote \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10 block-quote__body\">\n            <blockquote class=\"block-quote__text\" aria-label=\"\">\n                Heathrow has always served as a testbed for ground-breaking green technologies. These concepts go further than ever before, with the potential to transform the role that aviation plays in Britain\u2019s economy. The Future Flight Challenge has come at a critical time for the country and our industry. The concept has the potential to unlock opportunities for new entrants, cut costs and safely allow autonomous drone operators to maximise their use of UK airspace.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project NAPKIN: <\/strong>Which stands for New Aviation Propulsion Knowledge and Innovation Network, sets out to develop a blueprint that could be used to help make zero carbon aviation a reality across the UK. This idea could boost domestic connectivity and position the UK as a world leader in sustainable aviation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n        <\/div>\n
