{"id":109476,"date":"2022-12-13T17:32:55","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T16:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=new&#038;p=109476"},"modified":"2022-12-20T18:04:04","modified_gmt":"2022-12-20T17:04:04","slug":"ferrovial-construction-wins-innovation-design-award-for-silvertown-tunnel-project","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/ferrovial-construction-wins-innovation-design-award-for-silvertown-tunnel-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrovial Construction joint venture wins Innovation in Design award for Silvertown Tunnel project"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p><strong>Riverlinx CJV<\/strong>, <strong>a partnership between<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>BAM Nuttall,<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Ferrovial<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Construction and SK<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Ecoplant, <\/strong>beat stiff competition to win\u00a0the award for its\u00a0Secant Bored Pile Peanut Shaft design and construction which launched the UK\u2019s largest tunnel boring machine earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Riverlinx CJV, working closely with Ferrovial\u2019s Engineering Services department and BAM Wayss &amp; Freytag, developed this solution in response to the need to avoid anchors to the ground due to land right constraints in the project location. The design allowed the shaft to be built using secant piles which is the first time in the UK for a peanut shaft. Other alternatives such as D-walls were incompatible with the existing obstructions for the project or with the available supply chain (hydro mill not available in the UK).<\/p>\n<p>As part of the\u00a0innovative implementation, the team conducted a feasibility assessment in conjunction with the existing concept design, looking at various worldwide solutions and investigating their viability in the UK. The solution found was unique to previous UK constructions as it combined four shafts of 21.2m diameter connected through the key T-shaped counterfort structures. This structure required no external ground treatment or ground anchors.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Angel Martinez, Project Director: We are enormously proud of the solutions we are designing and constructing for the Silvertown Tunnel project and of the team we have to deliver them. Winning this award at the NCE Tunnelling Awards is an important recognition of this work. The range and breadth of the projects and initiatives also showcase to society the critical role tunnelling plays in building resilient infrastructure that drives economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0year, the prestigious\u00a0NCE Tunnelling Awards celebrate and reward\u00a0projects, teams and organisations, helping to drive excellence in the tunnelling industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Silvertown Tunnel is a new 1.4km twin-lane road tunnel under the\u00a0Thames, linking North Greenwich and Silvertown, which will help\u00a0to reduce chronic congestion and improve\u00a0public transport links. The client, Transport for London (TfL), awarded\u202fRiverlinx\u202fthe contract for\u202ffinancing and overseeing the design, build and maintenance of the Silvertown Tunnel in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The\u202fRiverlinx\u202fCJV (Construction Joint Venture) is contracted by Riverlinx to complete the\u00a0design and\u00a0construction works.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
