{"id":16181,"date":"2018-07-25T11:15:42","date_gmt":"2018-07-25T09:15:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=new&#038;p=16181"},"modified":"2022-12-21T09:13:46","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T08:13:46","slug":"engineers-australia-harwood-bridge","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/engineers-australia-harwood-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineers Australia Visits Harwood Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>Engineers Australia is the largest and most diverse body of engineers in Australia, representing around 100,000 professionals at every level across all fields of practice.<\/p>\n<p>About\u00a0thirty\u00a0Engineers Australia\u00a0members\u00a0attended\u00a0both\u00a0events\u00a0and received a detailed presentation from the project team.\u00a0Representatives from <a title=\"Roads and Maritime\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rms.nsw.gov.au\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Roads and Maritime<\/a> and <a title=\"Pacific Complete\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificcomplete.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Pacific Complete<\/a> provided an overview of the upgrade and the new bridge.\u00a0Representatives from Pacifico including\u00a0Eduardo Gutierrez (Pacifico Project Director), Enrico\u00a0Calzavara\u00a0(Pacifico <a title=\"Blog post about BIM - Ferrovial Blog\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.ferrovial.com\/en\/2016\/02\/i-have-a-dream-bim-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">BIM<\/a> Manager) and Jaime\u00a0Granell\u00a0(Engineering Services Director for <a title=\"About Ferrovial Agroman - Ferrovial\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Ferrovial\u00a0Agroman\u00a0Australia<\/a>)\u00a0explained the\u00a0design, construction and BIM implementation\u00a0for this exciting project.\u00a0The event concluded with a\u00a0site tour of the precast yard, road deck and taking a closer look at the marine work from the Clarence River.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"image-section \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n        <figure class=\"image-section__figure\">\n            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.newsroom.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/15152935\/engineers-australia-harwood-bridge.jpg\" title=\"engineers-australia-harwood-bridge\" alt=\"engineers australia at harwood bridge\" class=\"image-section__image\">\n                    <\/figure>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>The new bridge will be <strong>1.5 kilometres long<\/strong> with <strong>36 spans<\/strong> and a maximum span length of 43.3 metres. It frames the Harwood Bridge through alignment of the new bridge piers with the existing.<\/p>\n<p>The twin decks\u00a0are\u00a0each supported by\u00a0twin\u00a0U-girders with a composite\u00a0trans\ufb02oor\/cast in-situ deck supporting each carriageway. This is supported on a\u00a0single reinforced concrete headstock\u00a0sitting on\u00a0two 2.2\u00a0metre diameter circular columns.\u00a0A\u00a0typical cross section\u00a0for the Pacific Highway\u00a0for a standard 10.5\u00a0metre\u00a0carriageway consist of five super-T girders with a cast in-situ concrete deck. From a technical, cost and construction perspective, Pacifico considers that using\u00a0U-girders\u00a0are\u00a0more\u00a0efficient\u00a0than the standard super-T girder solution.\u00a0<strong>The twin U-girder solution\u00a0has\u00a0resulted in\u00a0an\u00a0acceleration of the construction program and\u00a0minimised\u00a0the number of girders\u00a0required<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pacifico is\u00a0working collaboratively with Roads and Maritime Services and Pacific Complete to deliver this part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade. The upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
