FerroNATS<\/a>, Spain\u2019s leading commercial air traffic control operator,\u00a0is the only Spanish\u00a0air navigation\u00a0service provider to have attained level D on the European safety performance indicator\u00a0EoSM\u00a0(Effectiveness of Safety Management), an indicator that reflects the\u00a0level of\u00a0maturity of the Safety Management System (SMS) of an organisation\u00a0through the\u00a0evaluation of key safety management elements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Just 11 of the 31 companies operating\u00a0throughout\u00a0Europe have attained this classification, which was established as part of the framework of the community-wide Single European Sky initiative<\/a>. One of these companies is the leading UK air navigation services provider, NATS<\/a>, from which FerroNATS emerged in 2011 following an alliance with Ferrovial Services<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its creation the company\u00a0has demonstrated firm commitment to the implementation of best practises in safety\u00a0management and has fulfilled the safety objectives set out by the European Commission two years in advance\u00a0of the established date, the end of 2019. These objectives cover aspects relating to five\u00a0key areas:\u00a0safety policy and\u00a0objectives,\u00a0safety\u00a0risk management,\u00a0safety assurance, safety promotion and safety culture<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This performance indicator reflects the level of maturity of the operator in terms of\u00a0the\u00a0safety objectives established for these five areas and is obtained on the basis of points obtained from responses\u00a0provided on the EoSM questionnaire, which is filled out by air navigation service providers and\u00a0other\u00a0competent authorities and\u00a0validated by national supervisory agencies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The questionnaire consists of 26 questions, each with five possible answers, ranging from the lowest level, level A (initiation), to the highest, level E (ongoing improvement). The maximum level of maturity has not yet been attained in all areas by any European air navigation service provider.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

FerroNATS is the first Spanish air navigation service provider to attain level D\u00a0maturity<\/strong>, a level that\u00a0recognises the establishment of safety process management objectives,\u00a0thereby\u00a0placing the operator among\u00a0the best in Europe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n

\n The priority for FerroNATS is not so much the attainment of a\u00a0particular\u00a0level, but rather the definition and implementation of an efficient strategy for ongoing improvement in safety practises\u00a0within the company. <\/blockquote>\n\n
