{"id":42189,"date":"2018-11-16T13:34:24","date_gmt":"2018-11-16T12:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=new&#038;p=42189"},"modified":"2022-12-21T09:10:21","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T08:10:21","slug":"amey-social-inclusion-internship-programme","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/amey-social-inclusion-internship-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Amey supported social inclusion internship programme in Sheffield"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>Amey Sheffield Streets Ahead work in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sheffcol.ac.uk\/\">Sheffield College<\/a> to deliver the Supported <strong>Internship Programme for students with learning or physical disabilities<\/strong>. Since 2016, ten young people (aged 18 \u2013 24) have enrolled on the Internship programme in a variety of roles in the offices, workshops and depot stores.<\/p>\n<p>The interns are Sheffield College students and the Supported Internship Programme runs for a full college year. The Interns <strong>spend every morning in their job<\/strong>, afternoons are spent completing a personalised study programme which<strong> includes employability skills<\/strong> and the chance to study for relevant qualifications in English and Maths to an appropriate level.<\/p>\n<p>An on-site job coach supports the interns and managers throughout the internship. The job coach works with managers to develop roles, ensuring a good match with the skills and abilities of each intern. They also help the intern learn the job, provide daily support to interns, and suggest reasonable adjustments.<\/p>\n<p>Interns receive essential training throughout the programme: site induction, manual handling, health and safety.\u00a0As part of the programme we designed a series of employability workshops, including customer services, interview skills, and mock interviews. <strong>The interns build up experience which they can use on their CV<\/strong> and allow them to demonstrate in a working environment that they have the skills and willingness to work.<\/p>\n<p>Since the programme launched in 2016, <strong>four out of the ten interns have returned at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amey.co.uk\/\">Amey<\/a> in an Apprenticeship<\/strong>. We now have apprentices in Grounds Maintenance, Customer Services, IT and Depot stores. The other six either returned to education or been supported to seek out other employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Two more interns will be joining Amey in November 2018.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
