It has more international flights than any other airport &#8211; flying nearly <strong>70 million people each year<\/strong> to over 180 destinations across the globe and serves two-thirds of all the UK&#8217;s long-haul flights. However, many of\u00a0its facilities\u00a0had become outdated and were not living up to the standards that passengers rightly expect. Capacity\u00a0constraints and\u00a0out-of-date facilities\u00a0meant the need for a major transformation plan.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next few years almost the <strong>entire airport will be rebuilt, refurbished or redesigned<\/strong>.\u00a0Our vision for Heathrow is to make it a\u00a0brand new airport, fit for the 21st century.\u00a0A multi-billion pound\u00a0investment plan\u00a0is delivering world-class facilities, more space for security, and vastly improved environmental performance. In short, it&#8217;s a plan to make Heathrow great by 2013.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
