Our division of\u00a0Ferrovial Servicios<\/a>, in cooperation with the company’s\u00a0Innovation area\u00a0and\u00a0Citymart.com<\/a>, the platform for innovation in municipal services, is launching “Cities Open Challenge by Ferrovial”.<\/p>\n

This new initiative focuses on\u00a0entrepreneurship<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0innovation<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>and aims to identify transformative\u00a0solutions for smart city development. City governments, citizens and Ferrovial will participate in the implementation of these solutions.<\/p>\n

The challenge
\n<\/strong><\/span>
\n<\/strong>Ferrovial Servicios proposes improving municipal service delivery in each of the seven participating cities:
\nA Coru\u00f1a<\/strong>,\u00a0Logro\u00f1o<\/strong>,\u00a0M\u00e1laga<\/strong>,\u00a0Santander<\/strong>,\u00a0Sevilla<\/strong>,\u00a0Valencia<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Vitoria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The challenge is to\u00a0identify technological solutions which improve citizen participation in the provision and optimisation of municipal services<\/strong>. Each city proposes the service which it is most interested in innovating.<\/p>\n

How to participate\/Who can participate
\n<\/strong><\/span>
\nEntrepreneurs<\/strong>, SMEs, universities and research centres interested in participating must present their solutions via\u00a0Citymart.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0solutions<\/strong>, which will be evaluated by Ferrovial Servicios experts and the various city governments,\u00a0must be based on eight criteria<\/strong>: alignment with the challenge, the possibility of pilot testing, innovation, scalability, economic impact, environmental impact, cultural impact, and political impact.<\/p>\n

The deadline for submitting solutions is 20 February 2014<\/strong>. In the next phase, a winner will be chosen for each city by means of two rounds of evaluation. The winning projects are expected to be announced in May 2014, and they will be implemented in the participating cities.<\/p>\n

Commitment to entrepreneurs and innovation
\n<\/span><\/strong>
\nThe Cities Open Challenge enables us to renew our commitment to\u00a0accelerating and developing entrepreneurship and innovation<\/strong>, two of the hallmarks of Ferrovial since its\u00a0foundation 60 years ago.<\/p>\n

One recent example of our experience in this area is the Zuritanken innovation initiative, implemented throughout the company. We also have innovation programmes under way with the\u00a0Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other universities in Spain and elsewhere in Europe.<\/p>\n

The Cities Open Challenge enables us to advance further and creates a new channel that supports initiatives which will drive development of the city of the future\u2014the intelligent city.<\/p>\n
