The complex, now called the Gran Canaria North Ecopark, spans an area of 290 thousand square meters and has capacity to treat 240,000 tons of waste.<\/p>\n<p>The General Manager of Ferrovial Services Spain, Ignacio Gast\u00f3n, together with the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Jos\u00e9 Miguel Bravo de Laguna, and the regional minister of the Environment and Emergencies, Mar\u00eda del Mar Ar\u00e9valo, has inaugurated the automation of the light packaging sorting plant and the plant for sorting the residual fraction of urban waste.<\/p>\n<p>The automation of the light packaging sorting plant represents an investment of<strong> two million euros.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With an operative treatment capacity of 5 tons\/h, it will allow better performance when selecting materials for recycling. The appropriate adjustments are also being made at this plant to handle lightweight containers from the island&#8217;s tourism industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A sum of over four and a half million euros has been invested at the plant for sorting the<strong> residual fraction of urban waste.<\/strong> It has a treatment capacity of 80 Tn\/h. Asa differentiator, the facility has a process for cleaning organic matter (removal of small pieces of paper, plastics, and so on) based on optical technology thereby improving the further processing of said fraction.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioning of these new services is a step forward in the work plan provided by the island&#8217;s City Council at this site. In this respect, the regional minister of the Environment and Emergencies, Mar\u00eda del Mar Ar\u00e9valo, notes that &#8220;Gran Canaria North Ecopark<strong> will cover the treatment needs of 100% of the waste<\/strong> generated by municipalities in this part of the island for the next 20 years&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The consortium formed by Ferrovial Servicios and Ayagaures Medio Ambiente is responsible for the managing the Gran Canaria North Ecopark.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
