{"id":5596,"date":"2014-01-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-28T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/heathrow-wins-sixth-biodiversity-benchmark-award\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T10:18:17","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T09:18:17","slug":"heathrow-wins-sixth-biodiversity-benchmark-award","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/heathrow-wins-sixth-biodiversity-benchmark-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathrow wins sixth Biodiversity Benchmark award"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>Heathrow has been awarded <a title=\"The Wildlife Trust\u00b4s Biodiversity Benchmark Award (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/mediacentre.heathrowairport.com\/Press-releases\/Heathrow-wins-sixth-Biodiversity-Benchmark-award-7df.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">The Wildlife Trust\u2019s Biodiversity Benchmark Award<\/a> for a sixth year in a row.<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s hub is the only airport to have been given this award. <strong>Heathrow actively manages around 100 hectares across 13 sites for nature conservation<\/strong>, including four reserve areas that are open for local people to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"Wildlife Trust independently (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wildlifetrusts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wildlife Trust independently<\/a> judges more than 40 organisations\u2019 commitments to biodiversity, visiting each site and measuring their compliance with stringent environmental requirements. Heathrow was awarded the Biodiversity Benchmark for its continued commitment to biodiversity &#8211; keeping a close eye on a wide variety of species in the area and managing the land to support them. The Princes Lakes were also commended for their potential for improvements to wildlife and habitats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sustainability Director Matt Gorman<\/strong> said \u201cWe are delighted to have been recognised for our continued commitment to biodiversity around Heathrow and winning the award six years running is an achievement we are really proud of. <strong>We are committed to running
