{"id":5598,"date":"2014-02-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/new-3d-technology-helps-passengers-through-heathrow\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T10:18:13","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T09:18:13","slug":"new-3d-technology-helps-passengers-through-heathrow","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/new-3d-technology-helps-passengers-through-heathrow\/","title":{"rendered":"New 3D technology helps passengers through Heathrow"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>A \u2018glasses-free 3D\u2019 technology is being trialled at <a title=\"Heathrow to help reduce the number of prohibited items placed in hand baggage and give departing passengers (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/mediacentre.heathrowairport.com\/Press-releases\/New-3D-technology-helps-passengers-through-Heathrow-7e2.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Heathrow to help reduce the number of prohibited items placed in hand baggage and give departing passengers<\/a> a smooth journey through the UK\u2019s only hub airport.<\/p>\n<p>The new technology is being trialled in the departure security zone at <a title=\"Terminal 1 (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heathrowairport.com\/heathrow-airport-guide\/terminal-1\" target=\"_blank\">Terminal 1<\/a>. Large screens show 3D images of items that are not permitted through security such as scissors, tweezers and liquids over 100ml. Passengers are shown how to dispose of the items in the recycling bins before putting their luggage through the scanner.<\/p>\n<p>If banned items are identified during a scan the bag is rejected and has to be hand searched by a security officer. <strong>This is an essential part of keeping air travel safe but can cause delays<\/strong>. Better preparation of hand luggage means the risk of bags needing to <strong>be searched is reduced and all passengers have a smoother journey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The trial was launched after being suggested by one of Heathrow\u2019s security officers, Samit Saini.
