5.4 million passengers<\/strong> passed through Heathrow<\/a> in January 2014, up 3.8%<\/strong> on the previous year.\u00a0Seats per aircraft increased 1.4%, whilst load factors increased 0.6 percentage points on last year, to 70.6%. Passengers per aircraft increased 2.2%, to 144.5.<\/p>\n

BRIC passengers were up 5%, with China up 26% and Brazil up 6.8%. The MINTs were up 5.8%, with Mexico seeing the largest increase, up 26.8% on the previous year.<\/p>\n

Heathrow CEO Colin Matthews said:\u00a0\u201cJanuary\u2019s traffic figures reflect a strong start to the year and the increasing demand for long-haul routes to emerging market destinations<\/strong>, such as Chengdu and Mexico City, that only a hub airport can support.\u201d<\/p>\n
