{"id":5607,"date":"2014-02-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-26T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/tunnel-boring-machine-ada-finished-her-journey-in-crossrail\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T10:17:35","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T09:17:35","slug":"tunnel-boring-machine-ada-finished-her-journey-in-crossrail","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/tunnel-boring-machine-ada-finished-her-journey-in-crossrail\/","title":{"rendered":"Tunnel Boring Machine \u201cAda\u201d finished her journey in Crossrail"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>The <a title=\"BFK (Bam, Ferrovial, Kier joint venture) (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.teambfk.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">BFK (Bam, Ferrovial, Kier joint venture)<\/a> Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Ada has <a title=\"finished building her last ring (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crossrail.co.uk\/news\/articles\/crossrail-completes-unprecedented-fortnight-of-milestones\" target=\"_blank\">finished building her last ring<\/a>, reaching her final destination underneath the heart of London and marking the completion of the Crossrail C300 Western Running Tunnels.<\/p>\n<p>When completed <a title=\"Crossrail will run a total of 118 km\u00b4s\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/ferrovial-joint-venture-awarded-500-million-crossrail-contracts\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crossrail will run a total of 118 km\u2019s<\/a> from Maidenhead and <a title=\"Heathrow Airport\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/projects\/heathrow-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heathrow Airport<\/a> in the west, through <strong>new twin-bore 21 km tunnels under central London to Sheffield and Abbey Wood<\/strong> in the east. The project will increase London\u2019s rail-based transport network capacity by 10%, supporting regeneration across the capital and cutting journey times across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The arrival of Ada at Farringdon means BFK have completed a total of 13 kilometers of newly excavated tunnel and more than 9,300 concrete rings have been placed underneath some of the most expensive real estate in the world<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAda has completed one of the most challenging drives across the whole Crossrail project. This could not have been achieved without the exceptional dedication and skill of the BFK and Crossrail team\u201d, assured Luis Amorim, Ferrovial Agroman BFK Board Member.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Ferrovial-Agroman-BFK-TBM-ADA-London.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Ferrovial-Agroman-BFK-TBM-ADA-London.jpg\" alt=\"Ferrovial-Agroman-BFK-TBM-ADA-London\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ada has had a much more challenging and eventful drive than her <a title=\"Sister Phyllis (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crossrail.co.uk\/construction\/tunnelling\/meet-our-giant-tunnelling-machines\/\" target=\"_blank\">sister Phyllis<\/a>, who finished in October 2013. Very early in her journey, Ada passed directly beneath the abutment of the Victorian era Lord Hill\u2019s bridge with only 4 metres of overburden cover. This was achieved with no effect on the bridge or the utilities that it carried, she passed even closer to London Underground\u2019s old cast iron lined museum tunnel, with negligible induced settlement.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Crossrail is the largest construction project in Europe<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Crossrail Western Tunnels Project Manager Andy Alder said: \u201cThis is a big day for the C300\/410 team and it is worth stopping to reflect on this achievement and how impressive the completion of these drives are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The London Underground users of <a title=\"Totthenham Court road (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tottenham_Court_Road_tube_station\" target=\"_blank\">Totthenham Court road<\/a> were also left unawares as the 950 tonne machine and 130 metre trailer then passed over the live operational Northern Line platform tunnel with only a clearance of 850mm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; Crossrail is the largest construction project in Europe; we all feel very proud to be a part of it. We are now looking forward to completing the rest of the project safely and on time.&#8221; Has assured Jose Garcia, BFK Project Director.<\/p>\n<p>After reaching the east end of <a title=\"Farringdon after 18 months\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/ferrovial-consortium-build-london-farringdon-station-230-million-euro\/\" target=\"_blank\">Farringdon after 18 months<\/a> of hard tunnelling by her and her crew, Ada will now be encased in concrete next to her sister Phyllis and beneath Chaterhouse Square at Farringdon Station.<\/p>\n<p>BFK is now focused on delivering the SCL platform tunnel excavations at Tottenham Court Road, Bond Street and Fisher Street. At Farringdon, the JV is also building the new Crossrail station to be completed by 2018.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
