{"id":5617,"date":"2014-09-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/ferrovial-recognised-for-the-nelson-bay-road-upgrade-project-in-australia\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T10:14:17","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T09:14:17","slug":"ferrovial-recognised-for-the-nelson-bay-road-upgrade-project-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/ferrovial-recognised-for-the-nelson-bay-road-upgrade-project-in-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrovial recognised for the Nelson Bay Road Upgrade Project, in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faaunz.com.au\/en\/2014-Construction-Quality-Award-for-Ferrovial-Agroman-Australia\" target=\"_blank\">Ferrovial Agroman Australia<\/a> has won a 2014 Construction Quality award for &#8220;Environmental performance and innovation&#8221;.\u00a0Held by the Roads and Maritime Service, the Award went to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faaunz.com.au\/en\/Projects\" target=\"_blank\">Nelson Bay Road Upgrade Project<\/a> for their innovative foundation treatment process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nelson Bay Road<\/strong> is located in a heavily vegetated, coastal sand dune in the state of New South Wales. The project required over 90,000 metres2 of native vegetation to be cleared from the site, exposing the in-situ sandy foundation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/nelson-upgrade.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-37407 alignleft\" alt=\"Nelson Bay Road\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/nelson-upgrade-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>For works to move ahead, the project required grubbing to an approximate depth of 500mm using excavators with root rake attachments. Topsoil was then to be removed and the underlying subgrade ripped and re-compacted before being overlaid with imported fill.<\/p>\n<p>Always searching for <strong>innovative solutions<\/strong>, the project team devised an alternative method by using a shaker bucket attached to an excavator. Once the finer roots were sieved using the new attachment, the in-situ sandy material was re-compacted tested and proof rolled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SUSTAINABILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This new approach resulted in 18,000 metres<sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0of material bypassing landfill, greatly <strong>reducing the Project\u2019s carbon emission<\/strong>s and delivering significant savings for the client.<\/p>\n<p>This innovative method is suitable for consideration in sandy soils where it is necessary to remove harmful material.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustralia is home to some of the <strong>world\u2019s most diverse wildlife and fauna<\/strong>.
