The Scottish Transport Awards<\/em><\/a> have, for the past three years, recognised excellence, innovation and progress in all areas of transport, with the support of the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland. This year\u2019s awards, held on 18 June, saw Glasgow<\/a> Airport recognised as having had its busiest year since 2008, with more than 7.7 million passengers passing through its gates, and opening up new routes and services. For instance, the daily route to Halifax, Nova Scotia, with the Canadian airline WestJet, or the direct route to Las Vegas with Thomas Cook.<\/p>\n

Furthermore the airport, which is managed by Ferrovial, completed its \u00a320m terminal remodelling programme, which included a substantial refurbishment of the international arrivals area. But there was also praise for the facilities and services it provides its customers.<\/p>\n

During 2014 the airport played an important role welcoming hundreds of visitors due to the range of events held in the city, including: the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and the MTV European Music Awards.<\/p>\n

This award comes at a time at which the number of passengers continued to grow, and where this year numbers are going to return to pre-recession levels. It also follows the launch of a series of new routes throughout May and June, including Budapest, Chania, Prague and Munich.<\/p>\n

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, stated, according to the company press office\u2019s press release: \u201cTo be named Scottish Airport of the Year is a fantastic achievement and it is testament to the dedication and commitment of the team. We have achieved a great deal of success over the course of the past 18 months and we are seeing our passenger numbers grow at an unprecedented rate.\u00a0 2014 was also a fantastic year in terms of route development, and together with the completion of our terminal investment programme, we are continuing to encourage more people to fly from Glasgow Airport.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/div>\n
