Including the summer season, this facility manages the waste of 100,000 residents on the island. <\/p>\n<h2>Remodelling of the treatment plant and construction of a new plant<\/h2>\n<p>This new contract, which will involve an investment of over 20 million euros, includes the remodelling of the treatment plant, as well as the construction of a new plant that will double the current surface area, and the incorporation of new waste treatment machinery and technology. These new facilities will be implemented over the next 21 months. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This project is a bet on the future based on the application of the best techniques available, which prevent risks and ensure sustainability&#8221;, explained Jorge Tejedo, Regional Manager of Treatment and Environmental Management of Ferrovial Services Spain.<\/p>\n<h3>Technology to optimize recovery<\/h3>\n<p>The new plant will include a management area for mechanical treatment of household waste, plus treatment of paper and cardboards, light packaging and organic matter from selective collection. As part of the commitment to waste recovery, the design will enable over 24% of the non-organic fraction to be recovered, which will prevent the discharge of over 50% of the total volume arriving at the plant. Moreover, part of the remaining waste will be used to produce a special fuel for use in cement companies.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
