Ferrovial, through subsidiary Cintra Infraestructuras<\/a>, achieved in July financial closure of the Bratislava bypass, in Slovakia, with a syndicate of eight financial institutions<\/strong>, including Instituto de Cr\u00e9dito Oficial (ICO),<\/a> European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) <\/a>and European Investment Bank (EIB).<\/a> The total projected investment is 975 million euro.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The design and build of highways in Slovakia, the 27 km highway (D4) and the 32 km radial highway will be completed by the consortium between Ferrovial Agroman<\/a> and the Austrian construction company PORR.<\/a><\/p>\n

Ignacio Clopes,<\/a> Ferrovial Agroman Director for Europe, Asia, and Australia, said: “The award of the D4-R7 Highways PPP scheme in Bratislava is an important leap forward in Ferrovial Agroman’s international expansion. This is our first partnership with the Austrian company PORR, our first project in Slovakia and I have no doubt the whole scheme will serve as a benchmark for design and innovation in Central Europe’s challenging construction market.”<\/p>\n

The D4 will involve construction of 27 km of new multi-lane carriageway<\/strong> between Jarovce<\/a> and Raca,<\/a> creating a beltway to the east of the city. The R7 is a new 32 km radial highway with 2-3 lanes each way, running in a south-easterly direction from the city centre. The entire scheme also involves the construction of 9 interchanges<\/strong> and almost 100 bridges and bridge structures<\/strong>, including a new 3km long bridge crossing the River Danube.<\/p>\n

Enrique Nieto,<\/a> Construction Director for Ireland, Scotland and Slovakia said: “The engineering solution we have offered our client responds directly to the specific technical needs and complications of the project. The fact that we will be working within Natura 2000, the ecological network of protected areas, coupled with the sheer scale of imported material on this project, 7.5 million m3 of earthworks<\/strong>, requires innovative construction methodologies. The complexity of the project is further heightened by the number of structures on the project and the location of these. A particularly exciting element of the scheme is the new bridge crossing the river Danube. This is the beginning of a beneficial and positive relationship for our client, the communities in Bratislava as well as both companies.”<\/p>\n

This project will improve traffic conditions and facilitate journeys between countries in the region, which will boost the potential for economic development, job creation and the local supply chain.<\/p>\n

Ferrovial, via subsidiaries Cintra Infraestructuras and Ferrovial Agroman, will participate in the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance, under concession, of 60 km of the D4 and R7 highways in Slovakia. The concession, based on availability payments, will run for 30 years from the end of construction.<\/p>\n

In February 2016, the consortium “Obchvat Nula” (Zero Bypass), formed of Cintra, Macquarie Capital<\/a> and PORR AG, was chosen as preferred bidder by Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport. Subsequently, commercial closure was achieved at the end of May 2016.<\/p>\n
