The Gran Canaria North Ecopark<\/a> is responsible for the integrated management of the waste of approximately 64% of the island population,<\/strong> or 67% of its municipalities. Its aim is two-fold: to comply with ever more stringent environmental legislation and to make the best possible use out of the resources obtained from waste.<\/p>\n

A new treatment plant for the biodegradable materials contained in urban waste has recently come into operation. This latest facility marks Ferrovial Services\u2019 completion of the integrated waste management infrastructure<\/strong> at the Gran Canaria North Ecopark.<\/p>\n

This new plant will subject biodegradable waste to a process of aerobic fermentation<\/strong> which will result in a stabilised product.<\/strong> The plant has three main areas: the biostabilisation facility, the tempering area and the air treatment plant.<\/p>\n

The Gran Canaria North Ecopark will also become self-sustaining in its energy needs through the energy produced by the gas stored and the biogas produced through decomposition of slurry in its biomethane plant.<\/p>\n

Since securing the contract for the Ecopark, Ferrovial Services has also completed automation of the light packaging sorting plant, the plant for sorting the residual fraction of urban waste, the slurry treatment plant and an environmental trail.<\/p>\n

Ferrovial Services in the Canaries<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In addition to managing the Gran Canaria North Ecopark, Ferrovial Services has other projects in the Canaries, such as the energy management of public lighting in Arucas<\/a>, street cleaning and solid waste collection in La Orotava<\/a>, and integrated maintenance of the San Roque Maspalomas Hospital,<\/a> amongst others.<\/p>\n
