Ferrovial Services has once again been awarded<\/strong> the contract for street cleaning and solid urban waste collection services for the Gernika-Lumo <\/a>Town Council, in the province of Vizcaya.<\/p>\n

The new service was commissioned at the beginning of November and includes total replacement of the vehicle and machinery pool,<\/strong> with an investment of close to two million Euros for a fleet of 20 vehicles. Presentation of the new contract was carried out by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Gorro\u00f1o, Mayor of Gerniko-Lumo<\/a>, and Mar\u00eda Uribe,<\/a> Town Councillor for the Environment.<\/p>\n

Service improvements<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Improvements provided by Ferrovial Services include new electric vehicles<\/strong> and machines for both the street cleaning and waste collection teams.<\/strong> These will reduce the impact of atmospheric and noise pollution,<\/strong> thus greatly increasing the sustainability<\/strong> of the service and providing direct benefits for area residents.<\/p>\n

Moreover, new services aimed at increasing recycling rates will be introduced through selective waste collection, with a recycling rate target in the near future of close to 50%.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another significant component of the new contract will be the management of a recycling point for small and medium enterprises<\/strong> within the municipality. The waste received at this recycling point will be separated and classified, thus providing a pioneering service in this Basque province.<\/p>\n

Ferrovial Services in the Basque Country<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ferrovial Services has been responsible for street cleaning and solid waste collection in the Gernika-Lumo municipality for the last 38 years<\/strong>. It also provides these services in other municipalities in the Basque Country such as Getxo,<\/a> Barakaldo, <\/a>Portugalete <\/a>and Basauri.<\/a><\/p>\n

The company has other significant contracts in the region, amongst them the facility management of the Michelin <\/a>(in Vitoria and Lasarte) and the Mercedes Benz<\/a> (in \u00c1lava) plants, energy services for Bilbao Kirolak, management of Alava\u2019s biocomposting plant, and the centre for environmental management in Barakaldo.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n
