{"id":6395,"date":"2017-02-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/third-lanes-on-the-ruta-5-sur-highway-in-angostura-chile-now-open\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T09:43:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T08:43:27","slug":"third-lanes-on-the-ruta-5-sur-highway-in-angostura-chile-now-open","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/third-lanes-on-the-ruta-5-sur-highway-in-angostura-chile-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Third lanes on the Ruta 5 Sur highway in Angostura (Chile) now open"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>Following three years of construction works, the third lane for the Angostura section of the <a title=\"Ruta 5 highway in Chile-Ferrovial\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/the-new-angostura-toll-plaza-on-chiles-pan-american-highway-comes-into-operation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Ruta 5 Sur highway <\/a>was opened on 25th January by Chile\u2019s <a title=\"Minister for Public Works in Chile-mop.cl\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mop.cl\/Paginas\/ingles.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Minister for Public Works<\/a>, in the presence of Chile Director Joaqu\u00edn Torres and the site team.<\/p>\n<p>Construction works have involved an investment of <strong>90 million dollars<\/strong> for the provision of three lanes in each direction between kilometres 51 and 54 of the Ruta 5 Sur highway. This has allowed vehicle capacity to increase from <strong>2,800 to 5,000 vehicles per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This new stretch of highway which has now opened is 7\u00a0km long and connects the Metropolitan and O\u2019Higgins regions. It includes a new layout and two 10.5\u00a0m carriageways separated by a 3 metre median, flyovers, slope strengthening systems, drainage systems and security installations with closed circuit cameras and lighting. This road construction project is part of the extension and improvement of the Ruta 5 Sur highway in Chile, which includes the <strong>Nueva Angostura <\/strong>toll booth opened some months ago and duly covered in a news report. Construction has also involved the provision of a new connection for residents of the \u00c1guila Sur sector, a new return lane to the south of Angostura, and two new pedestrian bridges in <a title=\"San Francisco de Mostazal, Chile- Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/simple.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Francisco_de_Mostazal,_Chile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">San Francisco Mostazal <\/a>and \u00c1guilaSur.<\/p>\n<p>The new stretch has required the excavation of 1,280,000\u00a0m<sup>3<\/sup> of rock and the cutting of 80 metre high banks with controlled explosions to remove 810,000\u00a0m<sup>3<\/sup> of earth. A total <strong>of 89,000\u00a0m<sup>3<\/sup> of aggregates<\/strong> and <strong>138,000\u00a0tonnes of asphalt<\/strong> have been used.<\/p>\n<p>The construction team led by Joaqu\u00edn Torres and Marcelo Cuevas, Safety and Prevention; Miguel Bintaned, Patricio Elizondo, Henri Garrido and H\u00e9ctor Soto, Managers; Pedro Medina, Alex S\u00e1nchez, Claudia Guerrero, Mart\u00edn Rivera, Joseba
