Glasgow airport was delighted to announce that an impressive 9.4million passengers<\/strong> travelled through its doors in 2016, which was a 7.5% annual increase<\/strong> on last year.<\/p>\n

Record passenger figures at Glasgow Airport<\/h2>\n

International traffic increased over the past 12 months by 9.2%,<\/strong> whilst domestic traffic also increased by 5.5%<\/strong> .This was thanks to the introduction of services and 25 new routes , including Sofia, Brussels and Marseille.<\/strong> In addition Glasgow has also strengthened its position as Scotland\u2019s principal long-haul airport with a new direct Toronto<\/strong> route and additional services to Orlando.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2016, Glasgow also became the first Scottish Airport to provide a direct service to South Korea with the introduction of inbound charter services from Seoul with Korean Air.<\/a><\/p>\n

In December more than 627,000<\/strong> people travelled through the airport, an increase of 10.2% on the same period in 2015, with international traffic increasing by 16.6% and domestic by 4.9%.<\/p>\n

Amanda McMillan<\/a>, managing director of Glasgow Airport<\/a>, said: \u201c2016 was an unforgettable year with so many highlights. To record our best-ever passenger numbers month after month and to carry 9.4 million passengers was a huge accomplishment and to do it in our Golden Anniversary was extra special. In 2017 we will continue to build on our connectivity in Europe by opening 6 new routes to the launch of six new routes to Munich, Bergen, Lisbon, Valencia, Palanga in Lithuania and Zadar in Croatia.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In terms of passenger service, another important achievement to highlight is that 99.45%<\/strong> of travelers went through security in under 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

Award wins in 2016<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Glasgow Airport was awarded with three major industry recognitions in 2016 – Scotland\u2019s Airport of the Year<\/strong> for the second year in a row and the Airport Operators Association\u2019s (AOA) Best Airport (3-10 Million Passengers), again for the second consecutive year. Glasgow was also named Europe\u2019s Best Airport<\/strong> (5-10 Million Passengers) by Airport Council International (ACI).<\/a><\/p>\n <\/div>\n
