{"id":6471,"date":"2017-03-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/the-ministry-for-the-environments-climate-programme-selects-two-waste-recovery-projects-submitted-by-ferrovial-services\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T09:41:13","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T08:41:13","slug":"the-ministry-for-the-environments-climate-programme-selects-two-waste-recovery-projects-submitted-by-ferrovial-services","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/the-ministry-for-the-environments-climate-programme-selects-two-waste-recovery-projects-submitted-by-ferrovial-services\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ministry for the Environment\u2019s Climate Programme selects two waste recovery projects submitted by Ferrovial Services"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>The Spanish <a title=\"MAPAMA.gob.es\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mapama.gob.es\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment<\/a> (MAPAMA) has recently published the list of <a title=\"63 new initiatives-MAPAMA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mapama.gob.es\/es\/prensa\/noticias\/el-ministerio-de-agricultura-y-pesca-alimentaci%C3%B3n-y-medio-ambiente-selecciona-63-nuevos-proyectos-clima-que-reducir%C3%A1n-m%C3%A1s-de-tres-millones-de-to\/tcm7-446456-16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">63 new initiatives which will become part of the Climate Programme<\/a>, which aims to boost reduction of CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions in various sectors such as agriculture, transport, housing and waste management. According to Ministry estimates, these<strong> 63 projects will together cut emissions by over three million tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In this fifth call for contributions, two projects submitted by <a title=\"Ferrovial Services\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/ferrovial-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Ferrovial Services<\/a> Spain through its Centre of Excellence for the Environment and the Department for Treatment and Environmental Management have been selected to be part of this grants programme managed by the <a title=\"Carbon Fund- MAPAMA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mapama.gob.es\/es\/cambio-climatico\/temas\/fondo-carbono\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Carbon Fund (Fes-CO<sub>2<\/sub>)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the two projects is the recovery of landfill biogas to provide the energy required for the treatment of leachate generated within the actual facility. This precludes the need for fossil fuels and contributes to operational and energy efficiency, as well as minimising external dependency. Estimates indicate that, once fully operational, the projects will avoid emissions of 5,860 tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub> per year: the equivalent of taking 2970 cars off the road. These two initiatives will be implemented at the Treatment Centres in <strong>Villarrasa (Huelva)<\/strong> and<strong> Golmayo (Soria).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the selection of these two new projects, Ferrovial Services now has 4 projects in the Climate Programme, a clear indication of its firm commitment to sustainability and reduction of the carbon footprint generated by its
