What is earth hour?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Earth hour <\/a>is a worldwide environmental event organised by WWF <\/a>which takes place every year on the last Saturday of March<\/strong>. In an attempt to raise awareness on the threat of climate change, the campaign encourages citizens all over to demonstrate their support for action<\/strong> by turning off their non-essential lighting for one hour, between 8:30pm to 9:30pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a special year for the movement as it marks event\u2019s the 10 year anniversary,<\/strong> which first took place in Sydney as symbolic lights out event. Now, it is not just citizens in their homes who partake in the campaign, but also major landmarks and businesses. Last year, over 35,000 companies,<\/strong> 500<\/strong> of which in Spain, took part in the campaign in over 170 countries<\/strong>. Photography captured from around the world showed popular buildings and structures such as, the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben<\/strong> and the Sydney Opera House<\/strong> without their bright lights.<\/p>\n
