{"id":6744,"date":"2017-07-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/welsh-first-minister-opens-eastern-bay-link-road\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T09:29:59","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T08:29:59","slug":"welsh-first-minister-opens-eastern-bay-link-road","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/welsh-first-minister-opens-eastern-bay-link-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Welsh First Minister opens Eastern Bay Link road"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p>After a successful completion of the <strong>Eastern Bay Link (EBL) project<\/strong>, the First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones officially opened the new link <a title=\"Eastern Bay Link - Ferrovial\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/ferrovial-awarded-its-first-construction-contract-in-wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\"> road in Cardiff <\/a>on 15 June. The dual carriageway, which is named after the late engineer and planner, <a title=\"Ewart Parkinson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rtpi.org.uk\/briefing-room\/news-releases\/2015\/march\/tributes-pour-in-for-former-president-ewart-parkinson-who-has-died\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Ewart Parkinson<\/a>, will improve links to Cardiff Bay, reducing journey times and helping to ease congestion in the city centre. Ffordd Ewart Parkinson will also <strong>boost the local economy<\/strong> by improving access to the Central Cardiff Enterprise Zone and <strong>enhancing connectivity<\/strong> across the wider city region. The road provided <strong>13 apprenticeships,<\/strong> <strong>two work experience placements<\/strong> and <strong>jobs for nine graduates<\/strong> and <strong>27 people<\/strong> who were previously long-term unemployed.<\/p>\n<p>Enrique Nieto, Director of Highways Ireland, UK and Slovakia, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe EBL is a complex infrastructure that will become one of Cardiff\u2019s main assets. Congratulations to the team for having been able to finish this project on time and within budget. This demonstrates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/construction\/\">Ferrovial Agroman<\/a>\u2019s commitment to excellence, technical development and safety. Well done to everyone.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The delivery of the project did not come without <strong>several challenges<\/strong>. As Andres Cabrera, Project Manager, states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe team has had to overcome more than one difficulty, such as working next to live traffic at both Queen\u2019s Gate and Ocean Way roundabouts; working at height; dealing with poor ground conditions and facing site restraints due to the immediately adjacent live railway and working dock roads, among many others. I am proud of the team, which has demonstrated total <strong>commitment to successfully overcoming these challenges.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For his part, the First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I am delighted to officially open Ffordd Ewart Parkinson, which will provide a major boost to both Cardiff city centre and the Bay. Commuters will benefit from a shorter route and reduced journey times, while local residents will see <strong>reduced traffic<\/strong> and <strong>reduced disruption<\/strong> in their neighbourhood.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Eastern Bay Link was finalised after over <strong>400,000 man hours worked<\/strong> without any reportable Safety or Environmental incidents. Furthermore, the project delivered on its commitment to respecting the environment, as piling platforms were constructed using recycled slag from local steelworks; and 75% of bored piling arising\u2019s (400m3) were reused as landscaping fill, to give just a few examples.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
