Ferrovial Servi\u00e7os, <\/em>the Portuguese subsidiary of Ferrovial Services<\/em><\/a>, is to manage a waste triage facility for <\/em>LIPOR<\/em><\/a>, the intermunicipal waste separation plant\u00a0for the city of Oporto and environs, for the next five years.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ferrovial Services to operate Lipor waste separation plant<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ferrovial Servi\u00e7os<\/a>, the Portuguese subsidiary of Ferrovial Services, has been awarded an 8 million euro contract to operate the LIPOR <\/a>waste management entity for the next five years. The Ferrovial Services Centre of Excellence for Environment<\/a> assisted with the bid by providing the technical solution. Under the contract, the company will receive and separate close to 10,000 tons of source-sorted waste per year from the municipalities that are members of LIPOR. This entity is in charge of management, reuse and treatment of municipal waste from eight municipalities: Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Oporto, P\u00f3voa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde.<\/p>\n

Waste treatment and reuse in Portugal <\/strong><\/h3>\n

LIPOR’s waste treatment plant\u00a0receives, separates and recovers materials from consumer-sorted municipal waste (i.e. from recycling centres, door-to-door collection and special circuits). The contract covers reception and separation of source-sorted waste from the eight municipalities,<\/strong> preparation of recoverable materials for the recycling, and maintenance of the facility. It also encompasses investing in the equipment needed to operate the service and enhancing the facility, basically in the area of energy efficiency.<\/p>\n

LIPOR serves around 1 million people<\/strong>, representing a total of 500,000 tons of processed municipal waste<\/strong> per year. The triage facility is just one of LIPOR’s infrastructures. In 2016, Ferrovial Servi\u00e7os was awarded the contract to operate the Lipor II<\/a> landfill, located in the city of Maia<\/strong> in northern Portugal, through the CITRUP joint venture (owned 70% by Ferrovial Servi\u00e7os and 30% by SUMA \u2014 Servi\u00e7os Urbanos e Meio Ambiente S.A.).<\/p>\n

Ferrovial Servi\u00e7os provides municipal and industrial services, including waste treatment and management, and infrastructure and green area maintenance. Ferrovial Servi\u00e7os is one of the largest privately-owned waste management companies in Portugal, providing a broad range of services to public- and private-sector clients in the municipalities of Planalto Beir\u00e3o, Maia and Oeiras.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n
