Amey<\/a>, the British subsidiary of Ferrovial Services<\/a>, has been awarded the contract for replacing street lighting<\/strong> in the city of Manchester<\/strong> over the next 3 years. The company will replace the traditional lamps and install 56,000 new light fixings<\/strong> equipped with the latest in LED technology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

These replacements will represent a saving of \u00a32 million<\/strong> (2.25 million Euros) per year for Manchester City Council and cut CO2<\/sub> emissions<\/strong> by 70,000 tonnes per year<\/strong>, thus achieving the Council\u2019s emissions reduction commitment targets. In addition to energy savings, the new LED technology will provide brighter and better quality<\/strong> lighting on the streets of Manchester, improving visibility for pedestrians and drivers and generally safer streets for city residents.<\/p>\n

In addition to the introduction of LED technology, Amey will install a remote monitoring and control system<\/strong> which will allow the Council to better manage its facilities and install smart apps in the future. The remote system will also allow lighting to be adjusted to Council requirements, for example by increasing light intensity to help disperse large crowds after major events.<\/p>\n

Amey has already installed over 200,000 LED<\/strong> technology light points throughout the UK, making it a leader in the field. Manchester now joins other cities such as Sheffield<\/strong> and Birmingham<\/strong> which are already using this technology on their streets.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n
