{"id":7264,"date":"2018-03-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/news\/i-285-sr-400-highway-construction-crew-team-up-with-local-schools\/"},"modified":"2024-10-28T23:31:06","modified_gmt":"2024-10-28T22:31:06","slug":"i-285-sr-400-highway-construction-crew-team-up-with-local-schools","status":"publish","type":"new","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/i-285-sr-400-highway-construction-crew-team-up-with-local-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"I-285 \/ SR 400 highway construction crew team up with local schools\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/groundbreaking-ceremony-marks-the-start-of-new-interstate-285-georgia-400-project\/\">North Perimeter Contractors, LLC<\/a>\u00a0(NPC), the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/construction\/\">Ferrovial\u00a0Agroman<\/a>\u00a0U.S. subsidiary\u00a0rebuilding\u00a0the I-285\/SR 400 in\u00a0Atlanta,\u00a0Georgia,\u00a0exposed young minds to the world of civil engineering and heavy highway construction through community outreach events.<\/p>\n<p>They\u00a0participated in\u00a0<b>a job shadow day for DeKalb County high school students<\/b>\u00a0in December 2017.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cerm.com\/\">C.E.R.M.<\/a>\u00a0(Corporate Environmental Risk Management), NPC\u2019s subcontractor, hosted the career event.\u00a0I\u00f1igo\u00a0Azofra, NPC Segment Manager, escorted students through the Mount Vernon Highway bridge construction site. Students learned about the substructures and superstructures needed to build bridges\u00a0and also\u00a0about careers in construction.<\/p>\n<p>This March, NPC gave back to DeKalb County students again,\u00a0this time at Chamblee Charter High School (CCHS) in Chamblee, Georgia. CCHS hosted\u00a0its 3rd\u00a0Annual\u00a0Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Day (CTAE Day)\u00a0<b>for students pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Mathematics<\/b>\u00a0better known as S.T.E.A.M. Students were interested to learn from the very engineers who are reconstructing the I-285 and State Route 400 interchange in their own backyard!<\/p>\n<p>Students picked the brains of NPC\u2019s associate project managers, safety coordinator, human resource coordinator and DBE office. NPC\u2019s staff provided sound advice\u00a0<b>about the educational paths needed to work as a civil engineer in construction<\/b>\u00a0including other roles that support engineers in highway construction.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0\u201cI chose to pursue a career in civil engineering because of a career day I attended at my high school,\u201d said Sionel Arocho-Meaux, NPC Associate Project Manager. \u201cTherefore,\u00a0giving back to the students at Chamblee Charter High School really meant a great deal to me.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>During the CTAE Day and job shadow day students learned about NPC\u2019s parent companies\u00a0Ferrovial\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fauscorp.com\/en\/\">Ferrovial\u00a0Agroman\u00a0U.S.<\/a>\u00a0and the careers available\u00a0to\u00a0them inside and outside of Georgia and the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p>NPC will continue to uphold its corporate social responsibility by partnering with Chamblee Charter High School and participating in job shadow days while they continue to build the I-285\/SR 400\u00a0Interchange Improvement Project.\u00a0<b>Later this year, NPC will invite CCHS students to shadow its construction crews and visit the project work site<\/b>. NPC also plans to continue participating in its subcontractor\u2019s outreach initiatives.<\/p>\n<h2><b>About the\u00a0<\/b><b>I-285\/SR 400 Reconstruction Project\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The I-285\/SR 400 Reconstruction Project in Atlanta, GA will improve\u00a0<b>4.3 miles of I-285<\/b>\u00a0from west of Roswell Road to east of Ashford Dunwoody Road and\u00a0<b>6.2 miles along SR 400<\/b>\u00a0from the Glenridge Connector to Spalding Drive. The improvements include eastbound and westbound collector-distributor lanes on I-285 and northbound and southbound collector-distributor lanes on SR 400. The new lanes will feed into the new interchange.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>$834 million project<\/b>\u00a0($458 million provided by Ferrovial Agroman) also includes a diverging diamond interchange on Abernathy Road at SR 400 and widening Mount Vernon Highway bridge over SR 400. Pedestrian and bicycle improvements will also be made.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
