Broadspectrum<\/a>, the Australian subsidiary of Ferrovial Services<\/a>, has renewed its contract with mining company BHP Billiton<\/a> for the next five years<\/strong>. The agreement, valued at 22 million euro<\/strong> (35 million Australian dollars), includes handling bulk materials at the Olympic Dam mine, in the state of South Australia.<\/p>\n

The contract extension came into force at the beginning of February. The services that the Australian company provides in this mine include slag byproduct recycling<\/strong> and processing and support for smelter operations<\/strong> to maintain uninterrupted production.<\/p>\n

Tom Quinn, Natural Resources Chief Executive at Broadspectrum, said:<\/p>\n

“This important contract win builds on Broadspectrum\u2019s 20-year relationship at Olympic Dam, and reaffirms our long-term commitment to the region. We have the broad range of skills required to support multiple sectors and grow our business in South Australia.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Broadspectrum has more than 2,000 people serving a range of clients in South Australia, such as the Australian Department of Defence, ASC and Australian Rail Track Corporation.<\/p>\n

Maintenance services for BHP-Billiton<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Broadspectrum has been working with BHP at Olympic Dam since 1997, delivering electrical, instrumentation, drilling, mechanical maintenance and rail maintenance services. This contract supports the strong relationship between the two companies and extends their commitment to working in the state of South Australia.<\/p>\n

BHP-Billiton is a multinational company which operates in the energy resources industry. Most of its activities are concentrated in Australia and America. The Olympic Dam mine, located 560 km north of the city of Adelaide<\/strong>, is one of the world’s largest deposits of copper<\/strong>, gold<\/strong> and uranium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Recent awards to Ferrovial Services in Australia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The extension of the Olympic Dam contract comes on the heels of the recent extension<\/a> achieved by the Australian subsidiary of Ferrovial Services with the Australian Ministry of Defence. Under that agreement, worth 300 million euro<\/strong> (450 million Australian dollars) and running until 2021, Broadspectrum will be in charge of estate maintenance, cleaning, catering, and stores and warehouse management and other specialist services such as environmental management, rescue and firefighting, aircraft refuelling and management of petrol, oil and lubricants.<\/p>\n

Broadspectrum’s subsidiary Easternwell<\/a> has also signed a one-year extension, until December 2018, of its contract with Shell-QGC to provide 12 rigs for well services in the Coal Seam Gas fields in Queensland.<\/p>\n
