Celebrations recently took place across Heathrow<\/a>\u2019s T5 as the airport terminal celebrated a decade in service. The terminal, which was rated by Skytrax as the best terminal in the world five years running<\/strong> (2012 – 2016 inclusive), marked the March 14th<\/sup> date with a visit from HRH The Prince of Wales.<\/p>\n

The terminal has seen 227 million passengers<\/strong> through its doors in the last ten years, amounting to some 969,000 flights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To mark the occasion, the Prince of Wales met some of the T5 team for a tea party on board a British Airways 787, while colleagues passing through the terminal were greeted with themed cake decorated accordingly.<\/p>\n

The terminal was originally opened by the Queen of England, and HRH The Prince of Wales added a spark of royalty to this occasion while he moved around the terminal thanking some of the staff tasked with keeping the airport safe.<\/p>\n

Other activities to celebrate the date included exclusive T5 commemorative pins as well as a Skywire <\/em>challenge, where staff were challenged to walk a tightrope suspended at a height of 30 metres outside T5. The challenge was set up to help announce Heathrow\u2019s new strategic partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s (DofE) award whilst also attempting to raise \u00a310,000 for the airports charity partner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Passengers traveling through the terminal were welcomed by live music performed by the iPhonics. Passengers were also tempted by tasty treats and retail discounts across the duty free. There was also an opportunity for children and those young at heart to help build the T5 10th<\/sup> anniversary logo from lego.<\/p>\n

Ferrovial Airports investment since 2007 has helped Heathrow become one of the world\u2019s top 10 airports. Terminal 5 now sits in 4th<\/sup> position on the list of the world\u2019s best terminals, with another of Heathrow\u2019s terminals, T2, now sitting in top spot<\/a>.<\/p>\n
