of\u00a0<\/i><i>energy decarbonisation<\/i><i>, urgently calling for<\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i><i>rigorous and<\/i><i>, indeed,<\/i><i>\u00a0essential\u00a0<\/i><i>regulation\u00a0<\/i><i>to consolidate the change process.\u00a0<\/i><i>This is further evidence of Ferrovial\u2019s<\/i><i>\u00a0decided commitment to sustainability<\/i><i>.<\/i><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ferrovial\u00a0has,\u00a0together with 31 multinational and medium-sized Spanish companies, signed the\u00a0manifesto\u202f<b>\u201c<\/b><b>Spanish\u00a0<\/b><b>compani<\/b><b>es for the opportunities\u00a0<\/b><b>of<\/b><b>\u00a0the Energy Transition and the fight against climate change.<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This pioneering initiative in Spain is coordinated by\u00a0the\u202f<a title=\"Spanish Green Growth Group\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/news\/natural-capital-as-an-investment-for-the-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Spanish Green Growth Group\u00a0(GECV)<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0highlights the need\u00a0for ambitiously\u00a0addressing\u00a0the energy transition process in\u00a0the\u00a0country.\u00a0Group\u00a0president\u00a0<b>Valent\u00edn Alfaya<\/b>\u00a0(who is also\u00a0Ferrovial\u2019s\u00a0Corporate Director\u00a0for Prevention, Quality and the Environment), warns that Spain<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cneeds a roadmap now\u201d\u00a0and that\u00a0the business sector\u00a0\u201cbelieves there is an\u00a0urgency\u201d\u00a0to have a\u00a0\u201csufficiently ambitious\u00a0regulation\u201d\u00a0in place.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u00a0signatories\u00a0to the manifesto\u00a0call on public authorities\u00a0to\u00a0reach an agreement\u00a0in 2018\u00a0for\u00a0<b>a Law on Climate Change and the Energy Transition \u201cwhich is\u00a0<\/b><b>rigorous<\/b><b>, ambitious and efficient,\u00a0<\/b><b>providing<\/b><b>\u00a0certainty for long-term investments<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b>.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The 32 Spanish companies\u00a0which are\u00a0part\u00a0of the manifesto believe\u00a0the Law should\u00a0include the following measures, as a minimum:<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Legally-binding targets for emissions reductions\u00a0in\u00a0Spain, on\u00a0both\u00a0a general and sectoral level,\u00a0for the period\u00a02030 to 2050,\u00a0in line\u00a0with EU commitments and the Paris Agreement.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0price for carbon and a review of taxation\u00a0rules\u00a0to meet\u00a0the principle of \u201cpolluter\u00a0pays\u201d\u00a0without increasing the tax\u00a0burden,\u00a0and\u00a0at the same time\u00a0encouraging\u00a0companies and citizens\u00a0to\u00a0adapt\u00a0their activities\u00a0to\u00a0the new sustainable economy.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Creation of a public\u00a0body to\u00a0lead, coordinate and supervise the decarbonisation process,\u00a0as well as\u00a0an independent authority\u00a0to\u00a0guarantee\u00a0application of\u00a0the\u00a0model\u00a0and\u00a0to assess and report on performance.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A progressive\u00a0schedule for discontinuing all types of\u00a0support\u00a0for fossil fuels, together with a set of measures for promoting energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in all sectors.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Programmes\u00a0to mitigate the eventual impact of the decarbonisation process on vulnerable groups, ensuring a fair distribution of the benefits of the process.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>An active and leading role for the\u00a0Government,\u00a0prioritising\u00a0decarbonisation as a\u00a0key consideration\u00a0in public purchasing policies,\u00a0making this a benchmark to follow.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Measures for information and transparency on\u00a0the\u00a0international\u00a0financial markets\u00a0regarding the risks associated with climate change, its impact on the financial accounts of agents, and the need for greater\u00a0transparency and proactiveness in this regard.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ferrovial\u00a0stresses\u00a0the fact\u00a0that action against climate change and the energy transition provide\u00a0<b>financial and environmental opportunities for society<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0declares\u00a0its firm\u00a0<b>commit<\/b><b>m<\/b><b>e<\/b><b>n<\/b><b>t to decarbonisation<\/b>. It\u00a0will\u00a0therefore continue to\u00a0develop\u00a0solutions and applications\u00a0with this\u00a0objective\u00a0in\u00a0mind and\u00a0will\u00a0support the activities\u00a0carried out by\u00a0the national and international\u00a0business community to\u00a0create\u00a0a carbon-free economy and a better future for our society.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
