The project undertaken by the company included\u00a0the extension of\u00a0the existing structure by more than 4000 m2 and\u00a0the redistribution of\u00a0the existing facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The scaling up was carried out in three main\u00a0phases, the first\u00a0consisting\u00a0of the <strong>construction of a new building<\/strong>\u00a0adjoining the east-facing\u00a0wall of the existing centre. This\u00a0new\u00a0building\u00a0is divided into three floors, includes\u00a0an internal connection to the original building, and\u00a0will house the medical centre\u2019s general services, i.e. reception, cafeteria, managers\u2019 offices and consulting rooms.<\/p>\n<p>The second\u00a0phase\u00a0consisted of\u00a0both\u00a0the <strong>construction of a new\u00a0structure\u00a0on top of the existing\u00a0building\u00a0<\/strong>and the extension-annexe of the first phase and included the installation of\u00a0corridors and gurney lifts\u00a0in a structure that\u00a0is\u00a0distributed\u00a0over two floors and provides\u00a0space\u00a0for a total of 40 beds.<\/p>\n<p>The third phase consisted of<strong> the addition of a third building annexed to the west-facing wall<\/strong> and consisting of two floors. This section will house the emergency services and operating theatres.<\/p>\n<p>As site manager Antonio Raya explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe execution of this project was a real challenge for the team, not just for the intrinsic complexity of the various\u00a0phases, notably the metallic support for the two floors, but also due to the fact that we were working in a medical centre that was fully operational 24 hours a day for a period of 20 months.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Overall\u00a0numbers:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Foundations: 644 m of 850 mm and 650 mm diameter piling, 628 m of 220 mm micro-piling and 813 m2 of concrete.<\/li>\n<li>Structure: 480 m3 of solid, reinforced concrete slabs, 2855 m2 of composite slabs and 301,500 kg of structural steel profiles.<\/li>\n<li>Walls: 1058 m2 of curtain wall with 900 m2 of double glazing\u00a0adorned with silk-screened cloud motifs.<\/li>\n<li>Interior finishings: Roughly 5500 m2 of drywall partition and cladding, 2250 m2 of\u00a0false\u00a0plasterboard ceiling, and a further 1000 m2 of\u00a0removable\u00a0false\u00a0ceiling. The flooring consisted principally of 1000 m2 of linoleum on top of terrazzo paving, 670 m2 of epoxy resin flooring, 450 m2 of continuous terrazzo\u00a0in situ and a further 1000 m2 of concrete paving distributed throughout the complex, in addition to plastic and epoxy paint finishes.<\/li>\n<li>Carpentry: Installation of 50 cupboards and 120 interior\u00a0wood\u00a0doors\u00a0of\u00a0various\u00a0colours, in addition to 300 m2 of wall cladding with curved HPL panels.<\/li>\n<li>Fittings: Installation of electrical, air conditioning, plumbing, sanitation, telecommunications, medicinal gas, natural gas, fire prevention and building automation systems and,\u00a0in some cases,\u00a0the integration of these into the existing\u00a0medical centre\u00a0systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The opening ceremony and subsequent tour of the facilities\u00a0was\u00a0attended by the President of the Autonomous Region of Murcia,<strong> Fernando L\u00f3pez<\/strong>, the Mayor\u00a0of Cartagena, <strong>Ana Bel\u00e9n Castej\u00f3n<\/strong>,\u00a0and the General Manager of the Medical Centre, <strong>Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Ferrer<\/strong>. Representing Ferrovial were <strong>\u00c1ngel\u00a0Luis S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>,\u00a0Site Manager for Zone I,\u00a0<strong>Jorge Sanz<\/strong>, Director\u00a0for\u00a0Murcia\u00a0and Civil Engineering Works for the Autonomous Community\u00a0of Valencia,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Juan Gabriel Jim\u00e9nez<\/strong>,\u00a0Construction Supervisor,\u00a0among others.<\/p>\n<p>The site team consisted of <strong>Antonio Raya<\/strong>, Site Supervisor, <strong>Antonio J. Cerezuela<\/strong>, Production Manager, <strong>Jos\u00e9 Manuel Izquierdo<\/strong>, Construction General Manager, and <strong>Mar\u00eda Teresa Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, Site Administrator.<\/p>\n
