Ferrovial was awarded the Compenso<\/strong> (“I Compensate”) seal by the Spanish Climate Change Office<\/strong> (Oficina Espa\u00f1ola de Cambio Clim\u00e1tico, OECC). This seal recognizes the company’s work in offsetting emissions<\/strong> generated by its activities.<\/p>\n

Garnering this recognition was made possible by the Compensa<\/strong><\/em> project on forest restoration<\/strong> efforts in agricultural areas and those affected by wildfires to absorb and offset emissions. This initiative was carried out in Torremocha de Jarama in Madrid. It aims to recover vegetation in an agricultural area with no trees, becoming a forest that will absorb CO2<\/strong>. With this forest, 7.7 hectares will be repopulated in three years (4.8 in 2019, 1.8 in 2020, and 1.1 in 2021). A total of 4,000 trees<\/strong> will be planted, absorbing nearly 2,000 tons of CO2<\/strong> over the next 50 years.<\/p>\n

With help from the Natural Engineering group Sylvestris<\/strong>, the project will not only help the fight against climate change and serve as a key environmental<\/strong> initiative. It will also have a social<\/strong> mission: giving work to 10 local individuals<\/strong>, focusing on those with fewer opportunities or who belong to groups facing a higher risk of exclusion. Everyone receives training, and they are responsible for replanting their own forest, adding more social value to their work.<\/p>\n
