Ferrovial Agroman has obtained a new contract in Colombia. The company will build a second jetty at Puerto Bol\u00edvar for loading coal from the Cerrej\u00f3n mine. The contract, worth 30.6 million euro, further strengthens Ferrovial Agroman’s international footprint; its parent company Ferrovial obtained 577 million euro in revenues outside Spain (64% of the total) in the first quarter of 2012<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The consortium comprising Ferrovial Agroman<\/a>, Ferrovial’s construction subsidiary, and Sainc, a Colombian engineering firm, has been chosen by Carbones del Cerrej\u00f3n Ltd to build a new jetty at Puerto Bol\u00edvar, in northern Colombia, for ships to berth and load coal from the Cerrej\u00f3n mine. The jetty will increase the port’s capacity from 32 to 40 million tons per year.<\/p>\n

The project represents an investment of 39.2 million dollars (30.6 million euro). Construction is scheduled to be finished in 2013.<\/p>\n

In July 2011, the company obtained a contract worth 55 million euro, also in consortium with Sainc, to build the tunnels for the Ituango hydroelectric power plant.<\/p>\n

Alejandro de la Joya, CEO of Ferrovial Agroman: “This new contract reinforces the company’s international presence and its commitment to expanding its operations in countries with strong growth prospects that need new infrastructure, such as Colombia.”<\/p>\n

The project will be executed in three parts: first, Ferrovial Agroman will build the access road for the conveyor belts. Then it will drive 58 vertical metal piles and the structures to support the belts. Lastly, it will use 560 tons of steel to build the jetty’s service, docking and mooring platforms.<\/p>\n

Carbones del Cerrej\u00f3n Ltd is owned in equal partnership by BHP Billiton (Australia), Anglo American (UK), and Xstrata (Switzerland). It operates the Cerrej\u00f3n mine, one of the largest open-pit thermal coal mines in the world. The new terminal will enable the company to further its capacity expansion plans.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n
