Under the slogan of &#8220;5 decades, 5 projects&#8221;, Ferrovial will support and promote initiatives chosen in consultation with Children\u00b4s Villages (reconstruction of a village in Sant Feli\u00fa de Codines, Barcelona), UNICEF (a project to provide drinking water in Bolivia) and other development projects with Fundaci\u00f3n Reina Sof\u00eda and other programs for social integration. The fifth project, chosen from among proposals by the Ferrovial Group\u00b4s own employees, will receive \u0080100,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One of Europe\u00b4s largest construction groups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On 18 December 1952, Rafael del Pino y Moreno founded Ferrovial, which initially specialised in renovating and building railway track. In the 1960s, Ferrovial entered other subsectors of construction, such as roads, hydraulic works, ports, and residential and industrial building, and it now covers all areas of this business. In the late 1960s, Ferrovial entered real estate and concessions: in 1968 it obtained the concession for the Bilbao-Behobia toll road (Europistas).<\/p>\n<p>While maintaining construction as its main activity (it is now Spain\u00b4s largest construction company in terms of business volume and backlog), Ferrovial has a significant presence in concessions, real estate development, services and telecommunications. It is one of the world\u00b4s biggest private-sector transport infrastructure developers, with a committed investment of \u00801.7 billion. Because of international expansion (focused on OECD countries, in addition to concessions, and acquisition of sound companies in markets with potential growth), Ferrovial is now present in Europe (Portugal, Poland, the UK, Ireland and Italy), Canada, Australia (Sydney) and Latin America.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrovial is Spain\u00b4s largest construction group and Europe\u00b4s second-largest in terms of market capitalization (over \u00803.5 billion). In 2001, revenues amounted to \u00804.24 billion and net profit to \u0080218 million, underpinned by a strong growth rate (+35% CAGR in the last six years).<\/p>\n<p>Ferrovial is the first Spanish construction group to form part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, the world\u00b4s leading benchmark for companies committed to sustainability (in the economic, environmental and social
