Ferrovial Agroman has been awarded the contract to design and build Telef\u00f3nica’s new data center, one of the largest in the world, at the Tecnoalcal\u00e1 technology park in Alcal\u00e1 de Henares, Madrid. Additionally, Ferrovial Servicios will provide integral facility maintenance of the installation over the next 15 years. The new Tier IV-certified data center will set the benchmark worldwide in terms of flexibility, reliability and energy efficiency.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ferrovial, through its construction subsidiary, Ferrovial Agroman<\/a> and in consortium with Master Ingenier\u00eda, advised by Digital Realty Trust, has been chosen by Telef\u00f3nica to design, build and commission one of the world’s four largest data centers, in Tecnoalcal\u00e1 technology park in Alcal\u00e1 de Henares.<\/p>\n

Telef\u00f3nica’s data center will be operational late in 2012. Built in five phases, it will consist of a total of 23 server IT rooms.<\/p>\n

The first phase entails the design and construction of a 24,700 square meter building containing seven server rooms each measuring 680 square meters. The project will be built to meet the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV standard, which confirms the availability of the highest level possible of data security.<\/p>\n

The building design, construction and operation will meet the strictest sustainability criteria, with a LEED Silver certificate from the Green Building Council. The center will focus on efficiently attaining sizeable reductions in water and power consumption and CO2 emissions with respect to traditional data centers.<\/p>\n

As part of this project, Ferrovial Servicios, through Ferroser, has been awarded a 15-year contract to maintain the building and its electrical and cooling equipment. The company will manage the seven server rooms to be built in the first phase and take charge of technical maintenance of this macro-center’s critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The contract is a service level agreement for energy services which focuses particularly on efficient energy use as measured by Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), which reaffirms Ferroser’s strategic focus on this type of project in Spain and worldwide in the coming years.<\/p>\n

The server rooms will be cooled using Free Cooling technology, which uses external ambient air when the temperature is lower than inside the room; this greatly reduces power consumption and will enable the center to attain a PUE of 1.3, one of the best levels of energy efficiency.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n
