Worth 111 million euro, this is one of the largest public sector contracts awarded in Portugal in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>The landfill will be used to dump municipal solid waste and ash from the waste-to-energy plant managed by\u00a0<a title=\"Lipor (new window)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lipor.pt\/pt\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lipor<\/a>, the contracting authority, in the city of Maia. Lipor manages waste in eight municipalities in the Porto region.<\/p>\n<p>The contract runs for 25 years, including the 18 months envisaged for construction of the new landfill. The Maia landfill is expected to reach capacity during this period, and Lipor will switch over to the new landfill once construction is completed.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrovial Services has extensive experience in waste treatment plants. It manages the following plants in Spain: Ca\u00f1ada Hermosa (Murcia),\u00a0<a title=\"Toledo Ecopark\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/videos\/toledo-ecopark-making-optimal-use-of-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\">Toledo Ecopark<\/a>, and\u00a0<a title=\"Ferrovial Services lands contracts to manage two waste treatment plants in Gran Canaria worth over 500 million euro\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/Ferrovial-Servicios-lands-contracts-manage-two-waste-treatment-plants-Gran-Canaria-worth-over-500-million-euro\/\" target=\"_blank\">Salto del Negro and Juan Grande (Gran Canaria)<\/a>. In the UK, it has been awarded\u00a0<a title=\"Ferrovial Services selected to build and manage a waste treatment plant in Milton Keynes\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/Ferrovial-Services-selected-to-build-and-manage-a-waste-treatment-plant-in-the-UK\/\" target=\"_blank\">a contract to build and manage a waste treatment plant in Milton Keynes<\/a>, in southern England. Ferrovial&#8217;s Polish subsidiary, Budimex, was chosen in consortium with Ferrovial Services to\u00a0<a title=\"Ferrovial enters the Polish waste treatment market with a contract to design and build a plant\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/PR-Budimex-Bialystok\/\" target=\"_blank\">design and build a waste-to-energy plant in the city of Bialystok<\/a>, in northeast
