{"id":122044,"date":"2023-07-18T12:07:06","date_gmt":"2023-07-18T10:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=press_release&#038;p=122044"},"modified":"2024-11-04T18:17:39","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T17:17:39","slug":"ferrovial-extend-fgc-line-8-barcelona-e300-million","status":"publish","type":"press_release","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press-releases\/ferrovial-extend-fgc-line-8-barcelona-e300-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrovial to extend FGC Line 8 in Barcelona for \u20ac300 million"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/\"><strong>Ferrovial<\/strong><\/a>, in consortium with <strong>Sacyr<\/strong>, <strong>Copisa<\/strong> and <strong>Copcisa<\/strong>, has been engaged to extend the <strong>Llobregat-Anoia line<\/strong> of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya <strong>(FGC)<\/strong> commuter rail system in <strong>Barcelona.<\/strong> The contract, awarded by the Catalonia Regional Government&#8217;s Territory Department, is worth <strong>\u20ac300 million<\/strong>. The work includes building a <strong>4-kilometer tunnel<\/strong> and <strong>three new stations<\/strong>, as well as upgrading two existing stations.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the project is to <strong>improve<\/strong> and <strong>expand<\/strong> public transport coverage in a densely populated area of Barcelona by connecting several key facilities such as Hospital Cl\u00ednic and the industrial engineering school. The project is expected to benefit <strong>19.5 million users<\/strong> per year once it is completed.<\/p>\n<p>The work will begin at the end of this summer and must be completed within <strong>five years<\/strong>. The Llobregat-Anoia line extension project will <strong>connect<\/strong> the FGC Vall\u00e8s and Baix Llobregat-Anoia lines, <strong>improving<\/strong> service and cutting transit time by an average of <strong>4.5 minutes<\/strong> by avoiding the need to change trains. It will also create opportunities for interconnections as the new stations will provide connections with Barcelona Metro line 5, the light rail system and other FGC lines.<\/p>\n<p>The lines will be connected via a new 4-kilometer twin-track tunnel to be built with a tunnel boring machine. The project also includes building <strong>two emergency exits,<\/strong> one at the intersection of Consell de Cent and Comte Urgell streets and the second at the intersection of Muntaner and Mari\u00e1 Cub\u00ed streets.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally,<strong> three new stations<\/strong> will be built on the new section of line: Hospital Cl\u00ednic, Francesc Maci\u00e0 and Gr\u00e0cia. The Gr\u00e0cia and Pla\u00e7a Espanya stations will be <strong>upgraded<\/strong>. The latter is the terminus of the Llobregat-Anoia line and forms part of one of Barcelona&#8217;s main transit interchanges, where several FGC lines and Barcelona Metro lines 1 and 3 converge.
