Through this effort, the company captured over 94 million Nm3 of biogas and used it to produce energy and heat, avoiding the emission of over 900,000 tons of CO2.<\/p>\n<p>According to Javier Llas\u00f3, Cespa&#8217;s General Manager: &#8220;Energy production is one of the company&#8217;s strategic aims, providing an excellent opportunity to generate additional value in the life-cycle of waste.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cespa currently has 6 bio-methanization plants with cogeneration systems, 23 degasification plants in controlled landfills and 13 energy-from-waste plants, some of which have been recognized for being highly innovative. The company is a pioneer in applying advanced degasification techniques and considers the harnessing of landfill biogas for energy a priority.<\/p>\n<p>Cespa, which provides municipal and environmental services in Spain, Portugal, the UK, and Andorra, serves 851 municipalities and close to 6 million people. In 2010, the company obtained revenue of 952 million euro and EBITDA of 161 million euro.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
