{"id":135253,"date":"2026-01-13T11:00:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T10:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/?post_type=press_release&#038;p=135253"},"modified":"2026-01-13T11:16:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T10:16:22","slug":"ferrovial-to-build-spains-first-nuclear-fusion-experimentation-center","status":"publish","type":"press_release","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press-releases\/ferrovial-to-build-spains-first-nuclear-fusion-experimentation-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferrovial to build Spain\u2019s first nuclear fusion experimentation center"},"content":{"rendered":"    <section class=\"wysiwyg text-editor \" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"container container--narrow container--p-10\">\n            <p><strong>Ferrovial<\/strong>, in consortium with FCC Construction and the local construction company A\u00f1il, <strong>has been awarded the lead role in the framework agreement for the design and construction of IFMIF-DONES<\/strong> (International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility \u2013 DEMO Oriented Neutron Source), one of <strong>Europe\u2019s most ambitious scientific and technological projects<\/strong>, to be built in Granada, Spain. These scientific facilities, promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities together with the Regional Government of Andalusia, will house two particle accelerators designed to test the effects of <strong>nuclear fusion<\/strong> on various materials.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrovial will participate in the first phase of works under the initial framework agreement, which has a budget of \u20ac174 million, and covers the design and construction of the core infrastructure required for the <strong>experimental nuclear facility<\/strong>. The main building will be operational by the end of 2029.<\/p>\n<p>IFMIF-DONES will be a one-of-a-kind scientific facility worldwide, capable of simulating the neutron flux generated inside a nuclear fusion reactor. These neutrons will irradiate the materials under study, to test their behavior and advance the development of the new technologies for <strong>fusion energy generation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This project further strengthens Ferrovial\u2019s position as an international leader<\/strong> in the construction of large-scale infrastructure for nuclear fusion research. Ferrovial has been involved in the development of ITER, the world\u2019s largest international fusion energy project, which is currently under construction in France, for 13 years. The company contributes its extensive expertise to the project and has been awarded eight contracts since 2012, more than any other company.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
