Ferrovial has opened a period of submissions for its “Stronger together<\/a>” programme to support community action projects. Through this initiative, the company and its employees share their commitment to the needs of society and their respect for human rights: Ferrovial matches employees’ donations out of their monthly pay packet to support development projects. The programme has benefited more than 120,000 people since its creation in 2005.<\/p>\n

The programme is open to any NGO operating in Spanish territory or Southern countries whose social aims include improving living standards, integrating people in vulnerable situations or developing intervention projects in Southern countries in order to combat poverty and exclusion in the framework of the\u00a0Millennium Development Goals<\/a>. The deadline for applications is 15 October.<\/p>\n

The procedure for choosing projects guarantees employee participation and transparency throughout the process: each year, a commission of experts in community action at Ferrovial analyses the applications from NGOs and shortlists the best projects; then, employees vote to choose one project.

\nDevelopment of water infrastructure in Burkina Faso and Tanzania
\n<\/strong>
\nIn the last edition of the “Stronger together” programme, Ferrovial assisted\u00a0Intermon Oxfam<\/a> in developing an irrigation system in the municipalities of Kossouka, Ouagadougou and Zitenga in northern and central Burkina Faso. About 325 families will benefit from the project, to which the company allocated 70,000 euro.<\/p>\n

Ferrovial is also working with\u00a0Amref Flying Doctors<\/a> to build infrastructure to guarantee access to clean water in the Serengeti, Tanzania, as the second phase of the\u00a0Maji ni Uhai<\/a> project. Ferrovial volunteers have been working for the last three years on this project, which has halved the incidence of water-related diseases, the main cause of mortality in the area.<\/p>\n
