The ceremony was attended by HRH The Prince of Asturias, Don Felipe de Borb\u00f3n, who gave the prestigious award to Rafael del Pino, Chairman of Ferrovial.<\/p>\n<p>The CODESPA Awards aim to recognize those actions that contribute to improving the living conditions of communities in developing countries. The NGO has commended the Maji ni Uhai project (Water is Life), which supplies drinking water to more than 50,000 people in the Serengeti, equal to 40% of the population according to the World Health Organization. The Prince of Asturias, Honorary President of CODESPA, stressed that the company, given its ability to generate wealth, has a key role to play in developing countries and with disadvantaged groups, &#8220;from promoting a market that involves excluded groups to the transfer know-how.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The jury panel, composed of academics and individuals from across the business community and the field of journalism, rated particularly highly the involvement of Ferrovial employees in the development of this project. In total, more than 30 employees have traveled on a voluntary basis to Tanzania for this purpose, for jobs ranging from infrastructure design to water quality analysis, geolocalization, and the training of local technicians.<\/p>\n<p>The project Maji ni Uhai aims to ensure that the infrastructure built in Tanzania becomes the basis for sustainable economic development in the region.
