ELMUNDO)- El fuego es imprevisible. Hay incendios que no se mueven y se extinguen antes de que lleguen los bomberos. En cambio, hay otros que avanzan tan deprisa que no hay modo de frenarlos. La velocidad depende de muchos factores. Por supuesto, el viento; pero tambi\u00e9n la orograf\u00eda, el tipo de vegetaci\u00f3n&#8230;, etc. Esos factores tambi\u00e9n determinan otros dos elementos importantes: la temperatura y la altura de las llamas.<\/p>\n<p>El problema es que muchas veces el propio humo no permite apreciar esas caracter\u00edsticas. Para descubrirlas un equipo de investigadores de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid ha desarrollado un \u00abespectroradi\u00f3metro\u00bb. El dispositivo analiza ciertas longitudes de onda de la radiaci\u00f3n infrarroja que pueden atravesar el humo de los incendios, y as\u00ed detectar la posici\u00f3n real del frente de llama.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan Jos\u00e9 Manual Aranda, uno de los componentes del equipo, el infrarrojo \u00abresulta ideal para analizar los procesos de combusti\u00f3n, porque la mayor\u00eda de energ\u00eda que despide un incendio se emite en este espectro\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>La aplicaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s evidente del espectroradi\u00f3metro es la lucha contra los incendios forestales. Fernando L\u00f3pez, que dirige el primer M\u00e1ster de Ingenier\u00eda de Seguridad Frente al Fuego, \u00abnosotros no trabajamos directamente en la extinci\u00f3n de incendios, pero nuestras investigaciones pueden ser aplicadas y desarrolladas por quienes se dedican a ello\u00bb.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
