En los \u00faltimos meses se han publicado diversos informes negativos sobre este tipo de carburantes, en los que se subrayan sus impactos negativos. Uno de estos impactos, de gran importancia, es la subida del precio de algunos alimentos como el ma\u00edz y el trigo (83% de media).<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, la ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar no ha subido de precio desde 2006. Una tonelada de ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar cosechada produce 85 litros de bioetanol. En Brasil, el 1% de la tierra cultivable produce casi el 50% del combustible que se consume en el pa\u00eds. El procesado de la ca\u00f1a, adem\u00e1s de para mezclarlo con las gasolinas de la petrolera Esso, se utiliza tambi\u00e9n como edulcorante para la producci\u00f3n de Coca Cola y como biomasa para producir electricidad (la energ\u00eda proveniente de biomasa de vinaza cubre el 3% de la demanda total de Brasil).<\/p>\n<p>La cosecha de la ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar se realiza durante todo el a\u00f1o, ya que hay distintas variedades adaptadas a diferentes condiciones clim\u00e1ticas. El ciclo de vida del bioetanol producido a partir de esta materia prima emite aproximadamente un 85% menos de CO2 que las gasolinas procedentes del petr\u00f3leo.<\/p>\n<p>En varios pa\u00edses est\u00e1 extendida la pr\u00e1ctica de mezclar bioetanol con gasolina, como Suecia, Suiza o Reino Unido. Para asegurarse de que el biocarburante procede de cultivos sostenibles y no favorece la deforestaci\u00f3n, las empresas productoras deben contar con un certificado ambiental verificado por un tercer organismo independiente.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
