En la actualidad se erige como uno de los <strong>aeropuertos internacionales m\u00e1s vanguardistas<\/strong> por el que transitan millones de pasajeros en busca de nuevas aventuras y negocios.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora Heathrow inaugura su nueva Terminal 2, que forma parte del\u00a0proceso de mejora de las instalaciones del aeropuerto, en el que se han invertido m\u00e1s de 11 billones de libras <strong>(13.500 millones de euros)<\/strong> y que convierte al aeropuerto londinense en un importante centro de innovaci\u00f3n mundial.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/techo-heathrow-terminal1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-36409 size-medium\" title=\"Heathrow terminal\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/techo-heathrow-terminal1-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"techo-heathrow-terminal\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>La nueva terminal, bautizada con el nombre de <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/es\/noticias\/terminal-2-ha-sido-nombrada-the-queens-terminal\/\">\u201cQueen\u2019s Terminal\u201d<\/a>, ha sido construida por Ferrovial Agroman y dise\u00f1ada por un equipo de arquitectos liderado por el espa\u00f1ol Luis Vidal. Este mi\u00e9rcoles 4 de junio empieza a operar con un primer vuelo oficial de United Airlines procedente de Chicago, aunque no quedar\u00e1 oficialmente inaugurada hasta el 23 de junio con la presencia de <strong>Su Majestad la Reina Isabel II<\/strong> y su esposo el Duque de Edimburgo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNA TERMINAL SIEMPRE A LA \u00daLTIMA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cuando comenz\u00f3 a operar en 1955 la Terminal 2 contaba con las instalaciones m\u00e1s modernas del momento en un aeropuerto. Por ellas pasaron personajes famosos de la talla d<strong>e los Beatles<\/strong>, Marilyn Monroe y Maria Callas, entre otros m\u00edticos iconos del momento.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/beatles-heathrow2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-36394 size-medium\" title=\"Beatles Heathrow\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/beatles-heathrow2-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"beatles-heathrow2\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Originalmente la Terminal estaba dise\u00f1ada para acoger a un mill\u00f3n de personas pero en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, y con una afluencia de m\u00e1s de 8 millones de pasajeros, se hac\u00eda patente la necesidad de una nueva terminal mas preparada para afrontar los nuevos retos en materia de <strong>seguridad y sostenibilidad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>La nueva Terminal 2, en la que se han invertido m\u00e1s de 3.000 millones de euros, podr\u00e1 recibir a 20 millones de pasajeros al a\u00f1o.\u00a0United Airlines ser\u00e1 la primera aerol\u00ednea en operar en estas instalaciones aunque se espera que en los pr\u00f3ximos seis meses ascienda a 26 el n\u00famero de compa\u00f1\u00edas. De este modo, la plataforma acoger\u00e1 332 vuelos diarios a m\u00e1s de 52 destinos de todo el mundo.<\/p>\n<p>La \u201cQueen\u2019s Terminal\u201d responde a un modelo m\u00e1s flexible que facilita la orientaci\u00f3n intuitiva del usuario por los aeropuertos del pasillo. Est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ada como un espacio abierto bajo un techo de acero con ondulaciones que permite \u00a0la <strong>entrada de luz natural<\/strong>, con arreglo a los objetivos de sostenibilidad \u00a0y<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/es\/noticias\/heathrow-diez-empresas-responsables-mundo-corporativo\/\"> respeto con el medio ambiente<\/a> del aeropuerto ya que en la nueva T2 se recorta\u00a0en un 40% la &#8216;huella de carbono&#8217; respecto a la anterior.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/terminal2-heathrow-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-36389 size-medium\" title=\"Terminal Heathrow\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/terminal2-heathrow-1-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Terminal Heathrow\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/><\/a>Alberga adem\u00e1s a la entrada una escultura colgante de aluminio de 78 metros del artista brit\u00e1nico<strong> Richard Wilson<\/strong> llamada \u00abSlipstream\u00bb,\u00a0que pesa 77 toneladas y mide 78 metros.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PREMIADO POR LOS USUARIOS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Por Heathrow pasaron en el mes de abril m\u00e1s de seis millones de pasajeros. El \u201chub londinense\u201d ha sido reconocido en cinco ocasiones como\u00a0 \u201cMejor Aeropuerto para Compras\u201d (Best Airport for Shopping) \u00a0en los \u201c<a title=\"World Airport Awards (ventana nueva)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.worldairportawards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Airport Awards<\/a>\u201d de 2014 y su Terminal 5 como <a title=\"El Aeropuerto de Heathrow galardonado en los World Airport Awards\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/es\/noticias\/heathrow-galardonado-world-airport-awards\/\">\u00abMejor terminal aeroportuaria del mundo\u00bb<\/a> (Best Airport Terminal) durante tres a\u00f1os consecutivos.<\/p>\n<p>Asimismo, y tal y como queda reflejado en su<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/es\/noticias\/heathrow-aeropuerto-sostenibilidad\/\"> Informe Anual 2013<\/a> recientemente publicado, Heathrow contin\u00faa trabajando por alcanzar unos comprometidos objetivos de sostenibilidad para 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/terminal2-heathrow-aeropuerto2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-36390 size-medium\"
