Budimex Construction works
Ferrovial’s Polish subsidiary Budimex has been awarded a contract for modernising and extending Lithuania Square (plac Litewski) in Lublin city centre, a square which was included in the listed monuments register at the start of the seventies.
Lithuania Square has an area of 35,000 m2. The aim of this project is to inject new life into the square by eliminating car traffic through its main boulevard and extending Krakowskie Przedmiescie Street as a pedestrianised area. The square currently has two green areas and a fountain in its central area. The renovation works will see this central area extended, and interactive water installations will replace the old fountain. The central boulevard through the square will have seven additional fountains, and further green areas. In addition to this, Budimex will move the monument to the Unknown Soldier and build a weather station, and will also re-energise adjacent urban areas. According to information from EFE news agency, Lublin’s municipal authorities have been working for years on planning for the modernisation and extension of Lithuania Square, and have finally awarded the project to Budimex. Completion is scheduled for the end of April 2017, with a budget of close to 9.3 million Euros net (11.5 million Euros with VAT).
